If message boards were available decades ago, what would the messages be about Marion Reeves being the first Black player at Clemson in 1971? Reeves has stated the the football team was great. What were the prevailing thoughts of the early Tigernetters?
If we were on message boards when Jackie Robinson integrated baseball, would we also view that as a liberal agenda and demand that we stick with tradition?
I don't think we give our players enough credit. Because their stance doesn't agree with yours, you feel that they are sheep, as opposed to them trusting their experiences.
America isn't America because you say do, America is America because we ALL say so.
We are living in a time of great change and our players like students in the past are exercising their newfound adulthood and rights as Americans. It’s a good time to be an American and an awesome time for the expression of our 1st amendment rights- especially from people groups who may have been silenced or marginalized in the past. This is true whether you agree or disagree with them and their message. Be a good American and let others be/do the same.
