OT-Phillip Seymour Hoffman has died

Feb 2, 2014, 2:10 PM

shame. Talented actor.

One of my favorites...

Feb 2, 2014, 2:24 PM

his roles in Boogie Nights and Charlie Wilson's War were absolutely awesome.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He was also great in Along Came Polly with Ben Stiller.***

Heroin.

I was advancing your absurdity, by being absurd.

Feb 2, 2014, 3:04 PM

From what I have seen the man had this addiction for over 20 years. This predates the Afghanistan war and proves your premise invalid.
Anyhow, it's a terrible waste that it killed this gifted individual.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Actually, the fact that he has been an addict for 20 years

Feb 2, 2014, 3:17 PM

Makes his O.D. a little more surprising. It's usually hard for an addict to O.D. However, what tends to happen is the addict gets clean, and then returns to heroin without the accustomed tolerance.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's possible because of years of drug abuse his heart

Feb 2, 2014, 3:37 PM

finally gave out. When people suffer fatal heart attacks while using drugs the death certificate may still read cause of death as an overdose, or basically a heart attack caused by repeated drug use. Still, it's an overdose. Sadly, I've seen this firsthand.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Generally speaking it's not the heroin that does it

Feb 2, 2014, 2:42 PM [ in reply to Another casualty of the Afghanistan 'War'.... High Grade ]

It's usually whatever they cut it with Fentanyl has recently been killing off a bunch of people. No profit in heroin if you don't cut it with other stuff.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's higher grade and cheaper than ever. There's a major

Feb 2, 2014, 2:48 PM

epidemic across the NE area of a sharp increase in both use and deaths that's basically going unreported nationally. They are hooking them up on the cheap . The public will get the message in a couple of years.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not saying you are not correct

Feb 2, 2014, 2:52 PM

The recent trend seems to be Heroin cut up with other deadly drugs.

I believe those to be outliers preying on the general trend.***

Why would they cut heroin with Fentanyl, another

Feb 2, 2014, 3:19 PM [ in reply to Generally speaking it's not the heroin that does it ]

opiate-based drug that's derived from the poppy flower?

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Pretty simple

Feb 2, 2014, 3:24 PM

They came across some cheap Fentanyl, and since it has the same general effect as heroin, they cut back on the heroin and add the fentanyl.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's about a dumb-assed drug dealer then, considering

Feb 2, 2014, 3:29 PM

Fentanyl is way stronger than morphine and would likely sell for much more than heroin per hit.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The user must be cutting in the Fentanyl. A drug dealer

Feb 2, 2014, 3:26 PM [ in reply to Why would they cut heroin with Fentanyl, another ]

would likely just sell you Fentanyl or heroin, he doesn't care. Fentanyl is nasty stuff. I remember there was a kid at Wren High School back in the early 2000s who was found dead after a party. He'd been using a Fentanyl patch.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Doubt 22 heroin addicts were cutting that stuff in

Feb 2, 2014, 3:50 PM

They mix cruddy heroin with fentanyl and sell it as premium. Would not be surprised to find that the fentanyl was stolen in bulk.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's my point. While you're likely right the process

Feb 2, 2014, 4:09 PM

seems stupid. Why waste fentanyl (bulk fentanyl that came free, perhaps) by mixing it with bad heroin. You'd just sell the fentanyl instead and turn it around much quicker. I'd think fentanyl would be a high-dollar item on any college campus.
Besides, you tell a user this stuff is better than the crap they're use to, they're going to buy it. They aren't going to argue and demand first that the high-grade be cut with the crap.

post it. Apparently fentanyl is synthetic and the stuff being used to cut heroin isn't pharmaceutical grade. It's made in illicit labs instead. Makes sense now. Oh, yea, Go Tigers.

The next Hunger Games is in post production but the next one (Mocking-jay pt 2) was still being filmed. I wonder how his loss effects filming. Addiction is a sad thing...

Typically, the body will recover during that clean period but cannot handle a sudden intake of the same amount of drug the person was using before he/she got clean. Happens a lot.
