we've never had borders open to this degree in the past 20 years or in the modern era. This is new territory for all of us and it will have its consequences. The southern border has been left open and not dealt with for a reason these past 3 years. What that reason is I shudder to think. But they could have easily stopped it but they chose not to. The was damaging presidential regime in our history so far.

That there's no way bad border security could present a realistic terrorist threat; HOWEVER, past attacks and 9/11 show us that it's unlikely. These cells have to lie dormant and plan their attack, and they have to blend into society to make that work. Sure, some nutjob could cross the border with a bomb, but he (and his group) know there's a significant risk of getting caught red-handed at the border or after. Then the whole plan falls apart.
9/11 took years to carry out by people who avoided legal risks. I'm not going to pretend an unsecure border doesn't pose this threat, but that threat is likely coming from a less obvious location within.
I think this argument is used as a more extreme red herring to draw more panic and fear over the border issues.
