question about Lecroy...
Jun 7, 2015, 12:05 AM
|
|
I see his name coming up a good bit...and I get it. Everyone is saying he would be great bc of the recruiting...but what all star has he gotten here...not disagreeing just simply asking bc it seems that most will say the talent level has dropped and we just don't get the caliber guys we used to...so we want to hire the guy that recruits the lower talent ? Like I said I am not saying he couldn't make it work and could be a diamond in the rough but I don't see the great recruiting yet...I did see where we were supposed to have a good class next year.

3 All Americans and 6 all ACC selections on this years roster....not sure your statement or question makes the least bit of sense.

Believe we only had 2...okey and crownover. Duggar was preseason but didn't have a great year. He didn't have to recruit Okey if he didn't go pro a monkey could have guessed he was coming to clemson lol I give him crownover but I'm talking about big time hitters we are used to...and all these great fielders we have now... you can't be serious in saying the talent on the teams the last few years is anywhere even close to what it used to be...so yea my question makes perfect sense...

Rohlman was named on one publication I thought as well. I am not sure who recruited who, I just know what is on the roster. Earlier today I read where as many as 5 could be taken in the MLB draft on Monday. If he did not recruit them then I guess you are correct.

Could have been...the only two I saw were those...and I am assuming him being the recruiting coord he recruited most of them...I wonder if it is like football where different coaches recruit diff guys...in any case the talent is not what it used to be and I get the Scholly issues but I just don't see where our talent is so good to warrant hiring a guy...I mean honestly I don't remember a worse fielding team than we have seen the last few years. Crownover was one of the best in the country...simply unbelievable but okey hitting 315 with like 12 bombs is not all that great...I mean he had a good year but I guess it warrants second team..crownover was the only first team all American

Etc,etc, etc. We need bats. Big bats. I get it with all the bat changes and all, but how how many games could we have one with a couple (or 20) long balls instead of all the one out/ bases loaded strand innings.?

safe to say we'll never have a shortstop hit .470 with 26 HRs and 30 doubles again.
Those aren't human numbers.

The head coach is who sets down the parameters as to the type of players that LeCroy is allowed to recruit.

The BBCOR bat....

jack recruited to try to play small ball after the old aluminum bats were outlawed. Then we never had boppers any more plus when you play small ball you're bunting a lot which statistics show is an inferior brand of baseball.

If you don't think a head coach defines the type of player his team recruits, you are sadly mistaken.

Or have their been other cases where anyone got their first ever HEAD COACHING job at a major baseball school?
I honestly don't know but tend to doubt that schools like FSU, Miami, Southern Cal, Texas, LSU, Alabama, Fullerton, etc. have ever given their head coaching job to someone who has NEVER been a head coach.

There certainly have been. I take that stupid comment back as Sully is the first example. Florida was indeed his first head coaching position and there are probably others.
My underlying point remains however in that I simply do not thing the level of experience is there

I agree. Hiring Bradley would be a huge risk. There are many more qualified, proven head coaches that will be interested. I think almost all those with Clemson connections would get Jack's input and blessing first.

He has changed the recruiting culture

Has concentrated on the Carolinas and Georgia. Works as hard as anyone in college baseball. Has been recognized by national publications for his ability to recruit. I have watched him work for years at a couple of different schools. He gets players.

I'm Def not disagreeing I think he is a pretty good recruiter and really hadn't been here very long to make a decision but imo the guys we have are some of the worst fielders iv seen and we suck at "small ball" if that is what you are gonna be fine...but be good at it. We are not fundamentally sound at all and I think it's recruiting and player development combined. My point is I would like to see us go after a bigger name...we could def get someone proven and lecroy still retained as assistant being he does know the area
