Question regarding the southern border

I am not into politics very much. I have a question for you guys that are political gurus. I have never understood, and I have never had anyone explain to me in a way that makes sense, why are we allowing people to pour into this country from the southern border? It would seem to the me, that anyone regardless of your politics, should be against people coming here ILLEGALLY. Yet it gets worse and worse everyday.
Can anyone explain to me why this is not only allowed, but why any American citizen would be ok with it and argue for it to continue?

Funny how everybody who is for it is only for it as long as it's in somebody else's back yard and doesn't put them out directly.
I think that's what you were looking for.

There's no coherent reason for it other than the destruction of this country by the political elites who despise you. Saying anything about it gets you labeled a MAGA Trumper white supremacist racist by the kooks on the left so they are obviously on board with the destruction. An invasion by any other name.......

I agree, if you don't have a secure border you don't have a country.

I truly feel sorry for people who are trying to escape their country for a better life here, but they should do it legally.
We have a deficit here in the trillions, with plenty of our own citizens living in poverty. We should take care of our own before allowing others to come here illegally.
I feel the same way about foreign aid and foreign wars. Sure, it would be nice to help everyone else out, but we should take care of our own first.
It's like a struggling family who decides to feed the neighborhood when their kids don't have enough. It makes no sense.
And no, I'm not against charity. I believe it's the right thing to do, but let private citizens and nonprofits handle that, not the federal government.

What is the current law with regard to seeking asylum? If an individual can just cross the border and make this request to an agent, don’t our current laws require the US to conduct a hearing? If so…how are these people considered ‘illegals’. Haven’t they complied with our own laws and international agreements which the US has signed onto?

The answer is nobody wants this. Nobody sees this as an ideal situation. But nobody wants to expend the effort to compromise on even incremental steps towards fixing it because each side is deathly afraid that any compromise will be seen as a betrayal by their base, even though both bases are like, "### DO YOUR JOBS."

Not based on your past posts, and I know you ain't "MAGA".
We actually had someone last week advocating for shooting them all. And it's not the first time on this board that lethal violence has been suggested. That's stupid and absurd.
I've never seen anyone here advocated just letting people in and giving them money. Jimmy is far from that. C'mon. Don't fall into that "anyone who opposes Maga is a lib!" stuff.
Our border is a real problem, but the MAGA solutions aren't real ones.

But if you just want to be a troll, then I guess it works. Troll on.

Do the same thing that happens to me on Friday night at TTT's and there's a line and a bouncer out front telling me that they're at capacity. I either get in line and wait my turn, or I go somewhere else, or I go back home.

Big Dig is generous in his talk about the USA taking care of illegal entry immigrants, but won’t make space in HIS guest bedroom, living room, and den to house any of them. Nor will he spend any of his own m9ney to feed them, clothe them, or provide medical care for them.
Instead, his ‘generosity’ is with other people’s money, homes, food, and food + medical care budgets.
In other words, the classic leftist.

…or you request a beer…and by TTT’s own rules/laws, they are required to let you in until such time as you can prove that you actually need a beer. Now, this may take some time, so until the bartender can make that determination, you are free to mill about and enjoy the music.

All the video clips you see of CBP and a line of immigrants are of people applying to enter legally. Essentially, loopholes and a recent court decision mean you can claim asylum status and wait out the courts in the US.

Well, we are a country of laws and if the law says they can come, then they can come. If that law isn’t working then Congress should get together and change it and quit using migrants as pawns to gain political points.

After all, the people who want this to happen (and they got their wish) voted for Biden instead of Trump.

Why the problem isn't solved easily
1
Jan 24, 2024, 11:56 AM
|
|
1. We can't look to the Democrats to solve the problem. A, due to incompetency, and B, I suspect they're playing a long game strategy here for future votes.
2. The real Republicans haven't come up with valid fixes for years. Some have tried, but they're too busy infighting. They've talked a good game about fixing it but haven't.
3. The MAGAs want shock and awe solutions that aren't really solutions and just #### off the populace. Building a wall, as someone put it, is a 5th grader's solution. Shipping them off to CA or NY or MA generates laughs and "gotchas," but the people are still in America. Also, people forget that Trump was okay with "catch and deport" during his admin.
We are going to have to find a way to send several back, period. There's really no way around it. Haley proposes this and is known for tough state legislation on it, but I'm not sure how much she can get Congress to act, who ultimately needs to make the move.

Wrong.
Trump had started what, according to early-in-the-program outstanding success, a program to stem the increase in flow of illegal entry immigrants. This was accomplished despite endless attempts at legislative action + lawsuits to impede Trump’s ability to get more done.
Remember the ~ $500,000,000 in border wall materials that were purchased, but sitting un-used at the southern border, during the first Trump administration? The never-Trump RINO Republicans and all elected Democrats used LawFare and legislative schemes to prevent the construction of the wall at strategically important points of entry.
In order to make absolutely certain that these wall materials would never get used, the Biden Handlers Admin went scorched earth and sold these materials for ~ $15,000,000.
This problem rests entirely at the feet of the Democrats, the RINO Republicans, and those millions of idiots who voted them in.

country. They would love to stay in their country of birth, but the risk of death/rape/gangs is too great. What is the solution, who knows, but this has to start in those countries.
Most, if not all of our families immigrated to the US over the centuries for many reasons, some legally, some illegally. I wish there was a solution that all could agree on. These are human lives and good people.

Just two things would help fix the problem. (1) To claim asylum, it should be done at a designated port of entry to the US not just crossing or swimming across anywhere you can sneak in and (2) you shouldn't be able to cross over multiple countries and claim asylum just because the USA gives out the most free stuff.
Also, if Biden thought Republicans were coming in from the southern border, he would have closed it yesterday.
