1500 student-athletes transfer to another school this year

to see if they could earn more - playing time, exposure, money.

In a capitalist economic system, this is their right.

Here is a list of the top 100 athletes projected to make the most positive impact on their teams. It will be interesting to see a similar list at the end of the season - who actually made the most positive impact - and which teams actually benefitted the most from the transfer portal.

College students transferring is nothing new and they, athletes...

in this case, have been earning compensation in some form or fashion, since as early as the late 1800s?

Deserves got nothing to do with it...

correct me if i am wrong but this is down from a couple years ago, right?

while we're still in the wild west era of these changes it is still heading in the right direction.

People we're really up in arms about how this is only going to allow the rich to get richer but it seems to have leveled the playing field. Just looking at the Top 10 ranked teams there isn't a "clear" #1 and UGA has retained that spot based off the last two season.

1,500 accepted transfers appears to leave out the 1,000s?...

2

still shipwrecked and hoping, as the sands of their eligibility clock run out, along with the opportunity for a free ejumacation[et al] they turned their backs on as compensation.

Maybe those would like a do over?

I agree that there are still too many getting stranded by the portal - BUT that should self-adjust as time goes on. Surely many of these athletes (and their parents) should be able to see how big a gamble it is and be cautious. Also, I think we are getting a number of sites developing that assess an athlete's chances of catching on elsewhere.

Sorry, this assessment crap is a 100% horse auction...

starts with HS evaluations and does not, can not remotely address the other 50%, which is far more important, desire. It's a projection and can not possibly know how these young people will react, their choice, when immersed in an other worldly and new environment.

I'd suggest the Portal itself is patently demic of "evaluations" inability to project and the resulting rampant failure.

Someone will say more is better, perhaps, but not more of the same, which is the crap we continue to see as people only laud Oklahoma or The Top 25, when so many things are unequal and so many others are leaking oil?

Yeah, I'm talking to that refuse and the stardust they sprinkle.

I could be reaching the point that life is hard, let them perish there and then hold their parents accountable most certainly if the young people were under 21 and the parents still had to sign an NLI, because the parents failed them.

Have a great weekend, Tobias27772.

Deadsolid,

My main concern with the portal is the guys that enter but do not find a school. They are the ones who get escorted out of their chance at an education. If a kid transfers to another school and does not get the opportunities or success on the football field that he sought he can still get an college education to get ahead in life. For the vast majority, their football career is small beans compared to that.

The evaluations that I am envisioning would be more about a kid's chances of getting chosen by another school and which ones might chose him - so that the kid's could make an informed choice before they entered the portal. Once a kid gets on a new team, he's on his own to succeed or not.

Many of us don't like the portal, but these kids have the right to choose. Now let's work on making it as reasonable as possible - and keep it from hurting the kids that the sport was promoted to help.

They have plenty of time to make an informed choice...

Oct 14, 2023, 10:58 AM

during the high school process, three years or more in some cases to make a rightful decision.

A parent and/or legal guardian is required to sign the National Letter of Intent and are recruited along with coaches, advisors, handlers et al as much if not more because of it.

These kids are not escorted anywhere and exercised their right to choose and then, choose again to leave. God bless their little cotton socks and choices.

The information is available on the dashboard, here.

https://www.ncaa.org/sports/2022/4/25/transfer-portal-data-division-i-student-athlete-transfer-trends.aspx

Bravo, they got what they wanted including not having to inform their coaches they were entering.

It's not about not liking the Portal, it's about anyone attempting to misplace responsibility and then create more layers, cost and lack of accountability because of it.

Maybe the right choice is they do not know what is best, obviously and instead need to have fewer?

It seems that you love football but hate football players (who are still kids, I might add).

Or maybe you hate football, too.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why do I hate anyone that has been given not one...

Oct 14, 2023, 9:21 PM

but more choices?

Haven't we all? And yes, I played college sports.

I also was taught that I should own my choices and have never blamed anyone else when I had control over a decision.

Maybe you just had a bad time and hate life?

And you never made any bad choices - perhaps with bad information ??

I just advocating to give these young kids accurate information with which to make informed decisions.

Why does that bother you so ?

I always thought that this would eventually be a force for spreading the talent around a bit more, but I may be wrong.

It would be interesting to see which is the more dominant direction of transfers - from a higher ranked team to a lower ranked team - or vice-versa.

Coincidentally, UGA has fewer portal transfers than Clemson.

Just a guess that at the end of the year, transfers make more difference in men's and women's basketball than in football.

Well, since a BB transfer is 1/5th (or 1/12th) of the team as opposed to aFB transfer as 1/22nd (or 1/85th) of the team, that would seem a safe bet.

Most people don't announce their naïveté up front

Oct 14, 2023, 12:17 PM

but since you did:

The mistake you, no doubt intentionally, make is that College Athletics were never supposed to be "part of a capitalist system".

They were club sports originally, and only.

How the Liberals have butchered the sport since is purely on them. In real terms, the Devil will no doubt have his due in time...

As to those who venture out for wilds and women, may they linger in portal purgatory until such time as their age eligibility has exhausted and beyond. Every #### one of them.
