So, I'm a freshman in 1972 and I take a peek at the football schedule. The last game is against "USC", and I said to my roomie that we were going to get killed (Southern Cal was the only USC I knew about). He calmed me down and assured me everything was okay because we were going to play the chicks from Columbia. And it turned out fine.

entire game played on West end of field due to wind. Punts went forward then blew back toward the kicker. No other stats.

CLEMSON, S.C. Nov. 25 (AP) — Jimmy Williamson batted down a pass for an attempted 2?point conversion late in the fourth quarter today that pre served a 7?6 Clemson football victory over rival South Caro lina.
Clemson moved through the muck and mire 57 yards for a third?period touchdown, scored by Smiley Sanders from the 1? yard line. Sanders caught one pass for 12 yards and carried six times for 16 yards.
South Carolina scored with about five minutes left as Eddie Muldrow took a screen pass and sped down the sidelines for 67 yards to the 3. Jay Lynn Hodgin carried it in from the three.
But when Doby Grossman passed in the end zone for two?pointer, Williamson speared it to the ground.
South Carolina's Tommy Bell attempted a 52?yard field goal in the closing seconds of the game but it fell short.
Jeff Slope managed to stop two South Carolina drives in the first half.

Bobby Johnson ran Eddie Muldrow down at the 3. Nobody else could have caught him. WI went to High School with Eddie. He is a really great guy. Coached football at Chapin High.
Told me he ran into Billy Wingo when Billy's son played baseball at U of SC. He introduced himself and proceeded to tell Billy his number and stats. Coach Dietzel had made them memorize DB stats.

Heidi Davis played a key role in the win.

Do not know about the Peach Bowl, but I was at the '72 game. Temps in the 30's with wind and drizzle the whole game. Field was so bad that they did not let the bands march. I had a good student ticket but so many people stayed home that I was able to move up and sit on the 50 yard line seats, two rows up. The field goal attempt was fielded by one of our DBs and almost through in the air, but remembered just in time and put a knee down. Then he threw it in the air. Beer at the Red Carpet that night tasted good.
