A Few Thoughts After 3 Games
Sep 22, 2013, 10:30 PM
|
|
I'd have to say watching the game Thursday, I'm worried about FSU, Maryland, GTech, and the chickens. While there are a lot of things to like, especially the dline and linebackers, we've got some things to straighten out in the next couple of weeks. I can see why we signed so many db's. We are definitely hurting at safety. Wish Alexander and Kearse hadn't been hurt in camp. We could use them both playing at a high level (I know Kearse is playing, but he's behind).
Offensively, it looks like we are still missing the studs from last year, as well as Peake. The oline has generally been a disappointment and needs to come together soon. Battle's bonehead play hurts. I thought Humphries was going to take Peake's place, but he was MIA on Thursday. Hopper and Williams look good, but I'm not sure they really trust Williams yet. Maybe he gets more throws between now and FSU.
In spite of the numbers, I'm somewhat disappointed in Tajh. He continues to fail to step up in the pocket and missed several wide open throws. I know he can do it, I just hope he gets his mind right soon. Better play by the oline would help I'm sure.
I like where we're at in the polls, but to stay there, we'll need to sharpen the saw a bit. Go Tigers!

part about the LBs (with the exception of Shuey, though he overruns too many plays and can be a liability in pass coverage)...Otherwise, I think you're spot on.
I would add that we don't really know enough about the RBs currently, because it appears (to me) that Chad isn't committed enough to the run. I probably say this every season, but all we heard about in fall camp was that Hot Rod was ready and that Brooks could "really move the pile"...well, where are they? I just don't see enough touches (for whomever is in at the time).
I know it's only 3 games, but I really think we could have run the ball successfully Thursday night to set up more downfield throws. It helps us get in a rhythm and its nearly the same net yardage as all the screens we threw.
Hopefully we sharpen our saw this weekend a little bit more. Good thoughts!

arent tackling a lick. and you're right saftey is glaring bad. a plus the front gets better as does the pass rush which is needed to prevent the secondary from getting carved up.
this is the second db coach who cant get these guys to tackle. I think recruiting wise we have some guys we missed on here. It got a little better as the year went on last year. I keep hoping it will this year too

I don't worry about the tuff games. Our guys play up to the good teams, and play down to the bad ones. Bring on the bad boyzzz!!!

did against NCST. If we play like we did against UGA, we'll probably win them all. I don't see how anybody can feel too confident in predicting either at this point.

We didn't play anywhere near our best game against UGA. As long as the defense shows up week in and week out the offense will start to click and we will be fine.

Tajh only threw a couple Adam's way but regaining his faith

in Bryant is big, did you notice how many times he threw short to Sammy when M.B.was open further down the field. Also, Tajh appears to play up to opponents and will his way to win when chips appear down! Go Tigers!

I really think Chad and Dabo were right...historically for whatever reason we just don't play well after a bye week. I guess that must come down to coaching and getting them ready but it is maddening. I think a lot of the games we have lost (GT couple years ago) came after a bye week. Tahj will be fine but I always cringe when he comes out throwing the out routes high because I know it will take him a while to start connecting. He has done it over and over the last couple of years. He and Sammy are NOT on the same page. He continually misses Sammy either throwing behind or over throwing him. Don't know why that is but you can tell Sammy is getting impatient with Tahj.

We certainly have some things to work on, but the sky isn't falling. We will get better. I like our team's leadership and toughness. Looking forward to correcting the problems and having a great season.

Secondary will be fine by Oct 19th game time.
Did Tajh falter against or not step up in Tally last year?
If you can't find faith in M Williams, I doubt your faith.
Give NCSU some credit, as they have a history @ home in big games.
And you know what else after I have thought about? Screw even considering the Twerps as a "trap" game on their way out of the ACC.

We really miss Nuke. There were so many catches last year he caught that I still wonder how he caught it.

DB's look especially bad in space. Bad angles and can't tackle!!! All of our players need to learn how to tackle. And offensive line needs to protect the quarterback. And the end sweeps are killing us.

Offense is struggling because there is no consistant treat of a run game. We don't have that back that will push the pile for 3 and 4 everytime. Thay forces defense to cheat up. Hot and brookes are both change of pace backs. Losing dye really really hurr this offense.

He was juking people out left and right. I thought cj was back out there for a minute. I also saw alot of speed from brooks and good hard running. I like our rb's and I think we will be in a good shape for the rest of the season, as long as they stay healthy that is. Brooks and Mcdowell are no thunder and lighting but I like the tandem.
