A successful basketball season is . . .

Feb 20, 2022, 10:00 AM

Since brad’s detractors are neg head whiners who won’t define what success looks like for the program, I’m gonna do it for them.

Now, I’m gonna set the bar a little lower than some of you whiney complainers might like. That’s cuz clemson doesn’t devote enough resources to basketball. See $63 million stadium reno and $2.6 million a year HC contract. With that paltry level of support, you can’t expect brad to go out and find a few kids who make a difference every year. It just isn’t fair. Not to mention that kids are showing up and then not performing the way brad expects.

So, given the unfairness of it all, I’m gonna say a successful year for our tigers men’s basketball team is one with a better than .500 conference record. By that standard, brad will be 5-7 after this year. So pretty good!

Think of brad’s tenure like a baseball season. If a team goes 5-7 in their first 12 games, no big deal. They have plenty of time to right the ship and win 90-100 games. You gotta think about what’s best for your grandkids and their kids as future tiger fans: brad.

Keep your negativity off this bleeping post! Let’s go brads!!!!!! Beat wake on Wednesday!!!

If we have a 500 record or better in the ACC yeah, but what have they done in the non conference?

I'm sorry the successful seasons are post season births. Mostly NCAAs. 3 NCAA bids and 3 Nits in 12 years is not good enough.

Alright so say we value an nit bid at 1/2 of an ncaa bid. So then that’s 4.5 successful years. Round up and brad’s shooting 5-7. Cmon nctigs! If you don’t like brad then you can giiiiiiit out!

The goal of our program should be top 25 every year. Ifnot that then making it to the tourney every year. 66 teams make the tourney. Shouldnt we have a top 66 program? Our administration needs to do whatever it takes to meet this goal. IMHO CBB cannot do this. He is not a successful recruiter .

I think you need to grab a reliable dictionary and look up the word successful.
But lets use your argument and let's say, compare Clemson basketball to UNC football .I guess UNC's lack of winning the ACC CHAMPIONSHIP in football is because they don't spend the revenue on that sport like they do basketball.
And how do you expect Brad's players to perform when maybe Tyson Hunter and P.J. Hall might be considered basketball players, not "Athletes" Do we even have 1 3 star basketball players on our squad. It is one thing to have guys that can run up and down the court at will, but is it too much to expect them to play a little defense from time to time. And how many times do you see a player pass on an open 3,or come up short.
And please show me one other bottom feeder in the league that blew a 23 point half time lead to Boston College, AT HOME, or that seem to find ways to have 5-7 minute scoring droughts or turn the ball over more times than attempting a 3. And this happens more times than Carter has those little pill.
By the way did you see the game yesterday. Our last two games were against a team with 4 starters out(FSU ) and nursing a 4 game losing streak and against a team with an interim head coach and mired in a 6 game losing streak. I would think winning at least one of those road games might be considered successful. We were 0-2.
And "college "baseball" is pro baseball. They don't play a 100 games.
So you stick with Brad ,and when they beat Wake on Wednesday ,get back to me and say :"See I told you so".

I guess because I grew up loving Clemson basketball, and even though we were never consistently good, it seemed we were always trying. I'm very disappointed and perplexed that we seem to have openly and unapologetically waved the white flag and rolled over in recent years.

I feel you. I too love clemson hoops. I was a student at the end of the shyatt years and start of purnell era and would go to all the games. Saw purnell out at the bar in Charleston one night towards the end of his run. He took a picture with my friends and me. Told him how proud i was of the place our program was at, and he said that’s good to hear, and that’s how we want people to feel. Seems like we’ve gotten away from that spirit.
Don’t mean to offend anyone who thinks clemson basketball can be and deserves to be better. Just having a laugh at those who think otherwise. Peace

Re: A successful basketball season is . . .

Feb 20, 2022, 12:40 PM

It’s about a successful program not about successful seasons. The program needs to get back to being a consistent tourney team. We need to find a coach that can get us back there and has a vision to go beyond.

You can’t invest more into basketball until we get a guy that can sell a vision of the future we can actually believe in.

CBB isn't paid $2.5mm annually for multiple NIT bids. The NCAAT is the only post season event which has any significant meaning. Few people can recall winners of the past several NITs. Strongly suspect one of CBB's primary seasonal goals is to receive an NCAAT bid, not NIT.

Re: A successful basketball season is . . .

Feb 20, 2022, 1:57 PM

Totally agree. Couple posters hve mentioned the bar of success should be ncaat bid. Kind of sucks that clemson teams with a winning record in the acc can get left out. Wouldn’t happen to syracuse or duke or unc . . . But they tend to win a couple games once they’re in . . . So, snubs might be warranted, and it’s probably fair to say brad’s only had 3 successful seasons in his 12-year tenure. But one thing’s for sure with brad: there’s always next year!!!

It didn't go far enough to be satire. The reality is there are people here that believe all of that. Try again with aliens and/or lizard people included next time.
