You would think they would learn

One of the headlines on ESPN right now is "FSU No. 1, but SEC rules AP poll." They probably just used last year's headline and added the part about FSU. Here are some facts about last year's Preseason AP poll:
Number of team's in the top 5 who ended the year in the top 5: 0
Teams from outside the SEC in the top 10: 5 How many of those teams ended the season in the top-15: All 5 Final record of the 5 top-10 teams from outside the SEC: 57-10 (won 85% of their games)
Teams from the SEC in the top 10: 5 How many of those teams ended the season in the top-15: 2 Final record of the 5 top-10 teams from the SEC: 43-21 (won 67% of their games)
And then comes the inevitable argument that the SEC didn't do as well because they had to play other teams from the SEC. Turns out the teams from outside the SEC that started the season in the top-10 went 21-4 in nonconference games. The teams from the SEC went 18-6 with a significantly lower overall strength of schedule.

SEC has the best bowl record year in and year out. What are you trying to say? Yeah Clemson has wins over the SEC but that more tells how good Clemson has become then the SEC being overrated.
And it's the AP poll who cares what the media says? The AP means nothing and will continue to mean nothing.
And last year's results have no baring on this season

Seriously, there are scores of SEC related threads on the first three pages of this website. Go to any SEC-centric website and try to find one ACC related thread title on the first 20 pages that is not related to the UNC Academic scandal....

The ACC has GA and FLA too - plus most of the east coast. AND ND.
Congratulations on your tv contract, but it is not a monopoly and the B1G is actually better.

Apple vs Orange comparison. You use "all of the above" vs SEC. How about a conf. vs conf. Comparison. You pick.

I don't have a clue as to what you will find, but my 2 semesters of statistics at USC was enough to spot your error. You reflect poorly on CU by presenting a flawed premise.

I was accepted at CU but chose USC because it was a better school for me. If you check my posts you will find that a young man I am very familiar with began his CU undergrad studies this weekend. I was very happy because I felt CU was where he fit best. He was accepted at USC, has family ties there, but we all feel he made the correct choice.

A quick search of the US News and world report rankings shows UGA at #60 and Clemson at #62. I got tired of scrolling to find South Carolina but it was well passed 100. I'm sure you have some different rankings that prove your comment?

Fact remains you can't attack the entire SEC for academics when Georgia, Florida, and Vandy rank higher.

The best schools in the SEC would be average at best in the ACC. Rank them however you wish.
Florida and UGA are the top public schools - Vanderbilt is the top private school.
If people are going to sing the conference tune - so will I in academics.

Vandy would be just at the top 5 and UGA and UF would be just above average in the ACC. All rank in the top 100.
I'm not saying the SEC is better, just saying the SEC isn't full of bad academic schools

Exactly! Before Louisville joined, our low spot in the ACC was FSU. All SEC schools (minus the three the mutt mentioned) were way below the noles. Football recruits do NOT go SEC for the academics.

But on average the SEC is lower, and the opportunity was availed to name any criteria to compare the two conferences.
Please tell me where I'm wrong.
I'll admit the SEC has higher rated football teams on average.

Your post makes no sense. Who are the apples and who are the oranges that i'm comparing? I'm comparing all the teams that were ranked in the preseason top 10.
Let me take away all the big numbers I used and try to make the main point of my post simpler and more coot-friendly. There were three teams in the preseason top 10 last year that were objectively overrated. All three of those teams were from the SEC. Understand?

We welcome fans of other teams, especially those of an upcoming opponent. However, please keep in mind that this is first and foremost a Clemson site. If you are starting a topic that is unrelated to Clemson, please post it in the "Other Teams and Sports" forum. Also be very careful not to post intentionally inflammatory posts that are just meant to cause trouble. This will not be tolerated and you will be banned. Visiting fans will get fewer warning and longer bans. If you are respectful and make intelligent posts, you should be treated well.

Thank you. Good to know that pointing out an error is now considered an inflammatory post. And asking that a more pointed analysis be made and would be welcomed is offensive. I guess your question as to my academic qualifications is well within the Personal attacks boundaries.

Espn is all about SEC. I do not pay ESPN much attention. They serve their own financial interests. They try to make sports news, not merely report sports news.

"Teams from outside the SEC in the top 10: 5 How many of those teams ended the season in the top-15: All 5 Final record of the 5 top-10 teams from outside the SEC: 57-10 (won 85% of their games)"
Please break this down by conference, instead of making this SEC vs. Everyone else. Highlight the conference that the "teams from outside the SEC" are from, and your biased framing of these statistics won't seem concrete in the least.
