Anyone else now disliking the idea of scheduling decent

Aug 30, 2014, 10:23 PM

teams for openers?

I'd rather play a cupcake to get the team rolling, especially with the new playoff system.

There is nothing to gain from playing a good team to open the season.

There is a reason Michigan played App St., Bama played WVA, etc.

A loss, even though early and to a ranked team still sets you back.

It is tough to open in a hostile environment losing as much as we lost last year

We have to adapt to the playing an ok opponent idea that seems to be going around. We had too many questions to answer on offense to do this. Especially considering suspensions.

You do understand no-one is ranked until Oct. 28th, at least rankings that matter.

I'm glad our coaches aren't scared like you

You play these games to get your team more mentally prepared for hostile environments and big games. Even though we lost to UGAy this game will pay dividends for our team later in the season and next year with returning players.

Besides, what is the point of bragging about beating Coastal or Furman? I'd rather try to get the big one and fail.

nope,,that is the road to the NC. Just got to win***

You wanna have a bigtime program? Then we should schedule (and beat) other bigtime programs.

We play in the ACC which is currently devoid of such programs (save two)...ergo whipping Furman by 50 points means nothing to pollsters. We would simply move up a spot or two next week because a couple teams lost that were ahead of us.

Beating a solid program to open our season means just the opposite. It catapults us into the national discussion early. And if we keep winning, we stay relevant.

It also heavily depends on where you're ranked early on. When you're #16, a big win over Coastal isn't going to do anything for you. But a win on the road against Georgia is a different story. If we lose, so be it.

Something tells me you weren't complaining when we opened against Auburn in 2012 or Georgia last year?

Amen...two great rivalry games to bookend the season.

WVU takes exception to that post......

Some of you I think missed the point of him saying "opener"

Aug 31, 2014, 12:56 AM

I like playing the big games and yes, I see the advantage in playing cupcakes first. I don't even know if that would of helped us tonight though...UGA RBs are #### near unstoppable... But I'd be fine with playing them later in the season...

got the "opener" point...just saying that playing a high profile game week 1 given the media build-up to the start of the season is a huge bonus...but only if we win.

Definitely great for the media...but if it meant (even by

Aug 31, 2014, 1:09 AM

some small chance) we would have a better shot at winning the UGA game by working out the kinks on lesser opponents...I'm all for that. Especially if it meant suspending players for the opener on a lesser opponent...

I still think there is a chance for us...if we run the table of course. That's asking a lot I know, but we had some players suspended that maaaybe could've made a difference...

Any team that wants to be in the final four of this new playoff system needs a strong SOS, so it was the right move, just have to win and then all are happy and the road to the playoffs is there. Playing cupcakes does no one any good in this system.
