Anyone else thinks DW4 tends to overthrow his open targets

Jul 19, 2016, 5:21 PM

several times in the first half, but seems to calm down in the 2nd half? I keep re-watching games, and he tends to miss opportunities during the first half, but seems to have deadly accuracy in the 2nd half. Am I the only one that's seeing that?

example: watch the FSU game - he overthrew Peake, Leggett, and one other in the first quarter. We should have beaten FSU by 2-3 TD's - easily.

Too much adrenaline? Just curious. I think Boyd used to do that too.

He missed some wide open targets a few times last season but hey he is not perfect.
He also threw some near perfect long passes where you couldn't hand it to them better.

Did notice it a few times. But again, not perfect. I was a

little worried after he was using the Virtual Reality technology because it supposedly can mess with your depth perception. However, can't replace the number of snaps without getting hit that it provides for practice as well. But like you said, he always seemed to ease in and get more accurate. Funny that he did seem to miss the wide open more often than the not wide open. But, I think he's a keeper!

Coot!

Nah I'm just messin. I've seen it too. It's just like a basketball player missing the wide open shot but making the contested one.

Yes just seeing them open and got rushed I believe. I am sure that and the INTs will be cut down this year as he will be even more improved and more on point. Another year after the surgery and another year to mature! He is going to be on point from the get go IMO. He will have a great connection with all of his WRs now and it will pay off.

Yes. He had one critical overthrow in the title game last year.

Go back to the fourth quarter. We had the ball around midfield, just inside Bama territory, if I remember right. Watson gets the snap and spots Renfrow. He throws in his direction, but airmails it. We end up taking a sack and punting.

The DB assigned to Renfrow slipped and fell down on the play. If DW hits him in the #s, he had a LOT of green. Probably would've been 1st and goal. Huge missed chance there.

You guys may have a point, and I certainly don't want to start pointing fingers and questioning fan hoods. It's ok to say something the tiniest bit negative and not be a coot.

That being said, questioning a QB who any other team in the nation would trade with us in a heartbeat is pretty funny. It's like Bill Gates saying it takes him too long to count all his money...or Derek Jeter saying he's banged so many pretty girls that he just wants to sleep once in a while.

Just because Michaelangelo carved David doesn't mean every work of art he did was perfection. To err is human...

Nobody is questioning DW he is amazing. Is he perfect no. Does he want to improve on his game from last year? Ofcourse. He knows he missed some throws and had a few too many INTs. I'm sure he thinks he should and can make every throw. I believe he will be improved from last year because the fact that he isn't blind to his mistakes. He is amazing and we are lucky to have him we are lucky that he knows he has some things to improve on. It's few and far between but he does make mistakes.

Well just to look at it from a different point of. I don't think he is over throwing. It could be the receivers aren't up to speed early in the game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, he's terrible. If you miss, that's where.

You pick.

He's throwing the ball away like we saw with Tajh.

Jul 19, 2016, 7:41 PM

He's just a lot closer to the target than Tajh usually was. Tajh could make you think he 'just missed,' on a pass.

There's some settling down to it but I think that's typical of anyone running such a complicated and precise offense.

It happens...all QBs do it...but he puts the ball on the money about 98% of the time

This is exactly why I am so happy that Mike Williams is back. I have been telling people this summer that having Mike Williams back will alleviate this seemingly problem of Watson overthrowing WRs on occasions. If you all remember back during Watson's freshman year, he and Mike Williams were beginning to get a rhythm especially in that UNC game. Williams was that guy for Watson that gave him the most comfort. Losing Mike Williams last year was huge from a rhythm stand point. It wasn't that Watson was completely overthrowing WRs last year. They were just a touch off. Now if we had Mike Williams last year, how many of those would have been overthrows??? If I was a betting man, I would bet that Watson has very few overthrows this year because of 2 reasons: 1) Williams is back and 2) He has developed chemistry with the other guys. This year is full of so much hype. I hope we are able to handle it and stay focused and finish the job this year with a title.

Is it September yet?!?!? I can't wait!

Maybe that is the reason instead of adrenaline as I've been thinking. I was thinking it was a mental thing that he might could focus on to be on target from throw #1. Maybe he just needs that connection with a WR that he is zoned in with. Not sure. Either way - it's fun to watch the guy play. We are blessed for sure.

Some of the throws to Peake were fine

Jul 20, 2016, 10:05 AM

Peake didn't always extend for the ball
