As bad as the OL was Saturday

Sep 8, 2021, 9:35 AM

DJ still literally crumpled when he saw oncoming defenders. What was up with that? No trying to dodge or fight off the tackle on a lot of those plays. He literally would crumple and fall like Brady does. That was a little concerning.

Run with all the open lanes he is a big boy that looked scared.

Run but he showed weakness and it is what it is. Soft and slow.

good qb's find ways to move around while looking downfield. You would expect DJ to do that but it seemed to be lacking. Not sure what his mindset was Saturday but he looked very different than his previous couple of games.

I don't get the criticism of the OL this past game. Granted, it could have been better (a lot of that game could have been better), but the issue was not with the OL this game (unlike prior games). Pass protection was "ok" against a good team but I know folks would fault the seven sacks, but at least 4-5 five of them were due to coverage and DJ holding onto the ball. He had about a good 5 seconds before most of those sacks. Compared that to how fast JT was having to get the ball out. We were giving DJ more time and that was an issue. Only 2-3 were because they were beat - mostly on that left side with the D pushing out and swinging inward. THAT was an issue. We did not really attempt to run it, and really, there were major gaps that DJ should have taken off but held onto the ball.

I thought this was very telling about the OL play Saturday.

An excerpt from an article on 247 that breaks down the primary reason Clemson's offense struggled against the Dawgs.
Clemson’s offensive line was disastrous pass blocking against Georgia. The Tigers surrendered seven sacks with all six of the linemen Clemson played allowing at least one pressure, per PFF College. Third-year guard Will Putnam (5 pressures) and second-year tackle Walker Parks (6 pressures) had particularly bad days. Really, only Jordan McFadden played well, posting a 70.7 PFF College grade; the only player on Clemson’s front to have better than a 55 grade.
Clemson’s run blocking wasn’t any better. Even if you take away D.J Uiagalelei’s (-)22 yards rushing, the Tigers managed just 24 yards on nine attempts. Not only did Clemson fail to run the ball well at 2.7 yards per carry, the Tigers abandoned the run after a slow start. Clemson’s starting interior line each had a 55.9 PFF College run blocking grade or worse.

Agree. This worked hand in hand with the sacks. Many of our routes are just - run straight at the DB and then run with them step for step covering yourself. Very few times do we have guys sit down in an opening. Later in the second half we finally had a crossing route sit down and it was usually open but we only threw to that receiver a couple times.

I was in section 525 so I had a clear view of the field

Sep 8, 2021, 10:18 AM

I started watching down field and the WRs were covered all night.

People don't want facts.. they want simplicity.
They don't want details they just want a scape goat to blame.

The facts are a number of things lead to the poor offensive performance
But that is too much to comprehend.

The number one contributing factor was georgia is a good team that
Played well. You looking to burn some 1... burn Georgia.

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”

Yes it's never just one thing. Too many guys all around just picked the wrong night to have a bad night.
