Interesting. Article reports six southern states are now contributing more to the United States’ gross domestic product (GDP) than the Northeast combined.
U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis numbers show Texas, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina made up 23.64% of the national GDP in Q1 2023, while the Northeast was responsible for 19.87%. six southern states are now contributing more to the United States’ gross domestic product (GDP) than the Northeast combined.

Thx for sharing. Growth in the sunbelt has been happening for decades. Lots of success stories. With that being said, the biggest GDP contributors by state are California, Texas, Florida, NY, Illinois, PA and Ohio. Caly is by far the largest contributor at 14.2 % while only having 11.7% of population. NY 8.1% GDP contribution with 5.9% of population. GA and NC are great success stories in the South.

Put them somewhere besides Lowcountry more specifically Charleston Tri-county, we are maxxed out. With Mercedes, Volvo, Boeing and all their supporting businesses and suppliers not to mention all the semi traffic from the ports, traffic is a nighmare. The explosion of population is not compensated for with infrastructure. Often 30min just to drive from one side of Sville to the other during daylight hrs and its only 7mi. I'm selling before too long and moving away from town, this was country 17yrs ago.

When I got there, it was very rural, horse farms, etc. Coincidentally, I went to work for Rockwell International, which was a spin off/divestiture of North American Aviation/Rockwell out Columbus, Ohio - and relocated to avoid unions and high labor costs.
During my 30 years there, the population growth was tremendous. By the time I left in 2016, you had to go 20-30 miles north up I-85 to get to the similar farm/pastures that were in Duluth when I moved there.
Yes, not a new phenomenon. Also, why do you think Georgia is now a recruiting hot bed?
Bottom line: can you blame them for leaving there (‘up north’) to come down here?
But you’re also right about the concern some of, or a lot of these morans are going to just ‘recreate’ that same situation here….

and working people have fewer rights. Same reason they leave the US for places like China. Most of the population growth fueling GDP growth in these southern states is from immigration, by the way, and many of them are illegal. Looking at GDP per capita instead would be more helpful if you want to compare quality of life in different places.
