Saw where city council gave first reading approval to this last night. All I know is what I've read online. i don't live in the area and only get back for probably a half dozen games/yr. My impression is that a city council that has seemed to be pro-active about managing growth in the past somehow didn't see this one coming and now seems to think it has no good alternatives other than approval to avoid expensive litigation. What stood out to me was approx. 1300 beds of private student beds and approx. 600 parking spaces for this mixed use development. Do students now use the transportation system to the extent that less than half need a car on campus? Are there private parking garages where spaces can be leased? Sounds like the project may certainly encourage students to use the transporation system. Otherwise, sounds like a potential traffic nightmare.
Traffic nonsense, case in point! Traffic either direction on 93 is stopped at the light at Cherry Rd with a rapidity that is mind boggling! If ever there was a cross-over point that screamed for pedestrian/cyclist cross-over bridges, ie numerous along 93!, it is the Cherry Rd light! Peds have complete control! Need to cross over the intersection now...press the button!
