"Clemson is my dream offer"

Is Clemson some sort of merit badge honor one earns to feel like you've "arrived"?
I always thought it odd that some high school prospects announce Clemson would be a dream offer, then they get it and again spout the same thing...then they end up signing somewhere else. I'm talking pre-NIL.
Just thought it odd.... Rant over...

Agree. Why even say it if it's not true. I'd say most have eventually committed but the ones that don't, you have to wonder what happened. Just curious.
And I ask myself, when they say that, then why didn't you commit right then. Why would you go to other schools? Just to get wined and dined? Just a free trip to see college X... Maybe so..

took the bus all the way over here to attend camp at Clemson, got an offer, said Clemson was his dream school, then signed with Texas A&M I think? I think some players say that to attract attention from other schools they are interested in. Or they may mean it and circumstances change. I take it with a grain of salt and as a compliment to Clemson.

NIL has nothing to do with it as kids have always said that. What do you want them to say?

I'm not sure understand.....the kids don't say that about all the schools that offer them. OP is talking about the ones who say that about Clemson and then go elsewhere. I've noticed it too. And no. they haven't always said that.

Certainly it does...post-NIL I wouldn't blame a recruit for considering Clemson to be his dream school but ends up at aTm because they set up a $5mil NIL deal. Would still seem sincere if that was the case.

Before NIL, SEC and other schools were doing it. But now it’s legal.
Clemson may actually be a dream offer, but in the end they made a business deal.

As a non-athlete, if I got a full ride scholarship offer from my DREAM school, odds are I'm going there. Just say'n.

"No rant", Pre signing talk is cheap and free. I don't care what star recruit the young man is, or what position he plays or how much money he might be offered NIL ,or even under the table. The only comment that means a "hill of beans" is "I'm All-In". And if he does recant ,or retract that comment than I hope the door hits him hard in the @$$ on the way out the door. No matter the situation, if you don't want to wear the "orange" than the color garnet( or red) and black might be a color to choose. After all the eSECpn is the place even the best 3 stars athletes want to go to.

I'll take any positive comments about Clemson even if they go elsewhere.

Everyone knows Clemson does not over offer and is very selective about offering recruits. When a kid gets a Clemson offer it increases his rating and helps his chances of getting an offer from another school that he may really want to go to. It is a true form of recognition regardless of where they want to go. Kind of like being invited to an all star game and then having to decide if you are going to play in it.

on recruiting.
We either get them or we don't, and if so, then I celebrate.
What I'm actually waiting for is for middle school kids to start holding press conferences about which high school team they'll join. Then, that'll trickle on down to the pee wee's: "My Mommie says I gets to pway wif the Okey Dokey Elementwary boys neth year!" lol.......

Is it because if they get a Clemson offer, they know they can go anywhere they want??

It’s Simple, Clemson is the most selective Power 5 school (I think). Offers are rare, therefore valuable. A dream offer. And how do you know these recruits don’t say the same thing about offers from other schools? Are you reading other teams message boards? I don’t, so I have no idea what recruits tell reporters from other teams message boards about their offer.

Basically everyone nailed it. We don’t offer as many kids. We’ve been in the playoff every year except this year and won two championships. There’s a lot of glitz to a Clemson offer. My personal thought is the money was already flowing at most big time programs LONG before NIL was a thing. We joke about the bag man. I hate to break it, the bag man conspiracy theory was/is real IMO. Kid rides a bus from Texas to camp at Clemson and Clemson is his dream offer. Posts it on Instagram. Boosters back home say we gotta make him forget this Clemson dream crap. Life changing money for a poor kid and his family and big time program X is probably a bigger dream than Clemson in a lot of cases. Just my theory.

Not every kid has a good support system

A lot of kids have people in their ear who do not have their interests or dreams at heart. I remember an OL from Summerville years ago who wanted to come to Clemson but had a bad structure in place and ended up committing to Spurrier. We all know how that worked out.
