Clemson under Leggett

Jun 2, 2013, 4:51 PM

2003-2012 (using USA/ESPN Coaches poll):

Average final rank: 17th
Average final finish among ACC teams: 3rd
Coots average final rank: 11th

Narrow it down to the previous 5 years, 2008-2012:

Average final rank: 17th
Average final finish among ACC teams: 4th
Coots average finish: 10th

This year will not improve any of that; again multiple ACC teams will finish ranked higher, and the coots will finish higher.

I like Jack Leggett; he's a first class individual and has had a good run at Clemson. It is clear and indisputable, however, that if you are satisfied with finishing 3rd or 4th in the ACC and behind the coots most of the time, the he is your guy. If you want better, there is absolutely no reason to think Jack is the guy.

yep we do great until talent equalizes. Jack is not an elite coach plain and simple.

ah yes I forgot Brad would rather insult Bill who built Clemson baseball than to say anything bad about Jack.

The Jack Leggett fan club is getting sadder and sadder.

Pointing out a fact is not an insult. Our record in Omaha is not good and under .500. If you levy a criticism on one coach and say that out program has fallen - then the only coach who we can compare him to has to be able to survive the same criticism.

We were kigns of the ACC under Bill. Now we are consistently middle of the pack that is a fact.

Jun 2, 2013, 5:13 PM

It is a fact. ACC is also larger and now includes 2 national powers that Bill never had to deal with - Maimi and FSU. ACC now compared to the 80s is night and day different and much harder.

Ah so we brought in two good teams that is your excuse for 1 in 18? Pathetic how you Jack lovers accept mediocrity.

Re: Yep - one in 10 years.***

Jun 2, 2013, 5:18 PM

That is the one problem. 1 in 18 is not good. 5 trips to Omaha in 18 years isn't mediocre though.

Re: Yep - one in 10 years.***

Jun 2, 2013, 5:21 PM

Dude you fail to read what I am posting. Why do we not ever win in those trips? Why do we not ever win the ACC? When we run into teams that have equal talent we lose more times than not. most of the time due to crappy fundamentals. Look at our record vs the top 25 the past 5 years.

I get what you are saying, and I am pointing out that when you say we are mediocre, when we still have elements of sustained success - it is ridiculous.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

In all fairness, the ACC is better now than it was then.

But again, whether or not Leggett is the right man for the job going forward has nothing to do with coach Wilhelm.

Re: Again, very good, but still finishing behind multiple ACC

Jun 2, 2013, 5:16 PM

I agree. My stance has always been that it is proven that Jack takes us to Omaha every 4 years. Until that changes, I do not see the need to change.

Finishing polls and regular season records are important. However, we have a tournament for a reason. Success in that is more important. I know these last 3 years are hard, but we ahve had a ton of success with Leggett in the NCAAs.

I agree. He has had a good run but it does seem like its time for a change of some sort. I feel like we will always be pretty good and competitive while he is here. I am not convinced he will ever win a championship though. How do you fire a coach that gets you to the post season pretty much every year? It's a tough decision any way you slice it.

You don't fire a coach that has been with you for
20 years and has a bunch of win's,but you can ask
that coach to resign, just like they did Bobby Bowden
at FSU.The coach at Liberty, learned how too beat
Clemson,while he was at cooterville.

FSU has 21 and we have 12 but it is a little misleading. Okla St won some years ago but havent in 16 times.

I also noticed Texas has been 34 times and has won 6
