They should have just said " We were not leaving out a SEC Champion with one loss that just beat the #1 Seed in the previous weeks poll. Therefore, we could not leave out another one loss conference Champ that gave the SEC Champ their only loss. That left only two spots for three undefeated Conference Champs and we felt that FSU was the weaker of the three. The reality is a Ben Ten and SEC team is getting in every year so there are only two spots open for a four team playoff. We are giving those two conferences at least 2 spots a piece in the 12 team playoff so get used to it."
For example, next year, If Georgia loses to a one loss or better ACC Champ Clemson to open the season and then loses one SEC game, they will get in the 12 team with 2 losses over a bunch of one loss teams.
Hmmm….. Not so fast. This is an all BIG / SEC CFP. Washington goes to the BIG next year and Texas goes to the SEC. We can expect more of this in coming years. It definitely incentivizes Clemson, FSU, UNC and NCSU to jump to those two conferences if they want to be considered in contention.
