Dabo admitted he calls the plays....

Well, at least one. He said the players couldn't believe he called the punt/pass option after practising it without game use for 3 years.
I'd say it was a good call - and very well executed!
I vote to let Dabo call another play this week....

And maybe calling the victory formation when the game is over? hope that doesn't bite us in the future.

if they would've taken a knee, ND woulda got the ball back. there was like 58 secs left when clemson got the ball back, last. and, ND had all 3 timeouts (i believe). they woulda had to get a 1st down to get to taking a knee. and, the last play had to take 5 secs or ND woulda had 1 play.

What was the difference between running the 3 plays we did and taking a knee? It would have ended up like we did on the last play where Cade threw it high and OB.
Last 4 plays - the PM runs would have been knees.
1st & 10 at ND 42 (0:54 - 4th) Phil Mafah run for a loss of 3 yards to the ND 45 (0:54 - 4th) Timeout Notre Dame, clock 00:54 2nd & 13 at ND 45 (0:50 - 4th) Phil Mafah run for 3 yds to the ND 42 (0:50 - 4th) Timeout Notre Dame, clock 00:50 3rd & 10 at ND 42 (0:42 - 4th) Phil Mafah run for a loss of 2 yards to the ND 44 (0:05 - 4th) Timeout Clemson, clock 00:05 4th & 12 at ND 44 (0:05 - 4th) Cade Klubnik pass incomplete (0:00 - 4th) End of 4th Quarter

Running plays uses up a few more

seconds each play than taking a knee. Taking a knee would have put us at 4th down with 10 or 12 seconds to go.
Neither a pass nor a punt will hang in the air that long. Assuming we intentionally punted out of bounds, ND would have gotten the ball back with time for one more play.

You can stand there for a couple of seconds and then take a knee. I think each of the other plays were blown up pretty quickly anyway.

Considering the field position, it would be easy to run backwards for a bit

and then go down.

From ESPN, here are the last 4 plays. Each PM's runs should have been a knee. Would have gotten to 4th down exactly the same without the risk of a fumble.

I don't think so

Each play took a few seconds off the clock. As opposed to the knee where the play is called dead much more quickly (Unless you ask him to take a few steps back and try to bleed clock, but that invites getting hit as well).
I can understand choosing to call a bit of a delayed knee, but I also think (as evidenced by us STILL having to run a play on 4th down), that trying to bleed every second made sense.
And it was a much different situation than those that have bit previous teams this year where a literal knee ends the game.

Dabo is THE Man, it's his team, he can call ANY play at ANY time on either side of the ball. It's hard, their kind are finding out they really don't matter, in ALL things.

The thing about they have zero evidence or inside information that..

Dabo is involved in the play calling. This is a conspiracy theory the trolls started in 2010 when we struggled, again with zero evidence. And after 12 straight 10+ win seasons, two national titles, 4 national title game appearances, 6 straight playoff and top 4 appearances, they finally get to bring it back up again in a year we’re struggling. So follow their line of the thinking whenever we have struggled on offense it’s all Dabo’s fault, but whenever we excel on offense it has nothing to do with Dabo.

And if he is calling a lot of the plays, he's not doing a very good job.
You've seen our offense these last few years, right?

In 4th and short, go-for-it-or-not decisions. The decision to call the play was great. It's a very good wrinkle.

Dabo definitely decides if the team will go for it on fourth down. He did say in an interview that it was a Pass/Punt Option, a PPO. I believe Cade had the option to pass for a first down if it was open.
