Day 2 and a lot of TigerNet folks still haven't gotten to CFP "Acceptance" yet.

I guess we will have to sort through another day of "woe is me - the CFP screwed the ACC/FSU" types of posts.

At the risk of getting flamed by those emotionally traumatized by the CFP Committee selections this weekend - let me see if I can help some of you get to the "Acceptance" stage of grief so we can get past this CFP playoff selection dead horse...

1. There was/is no US Constitutional principle being violated by the CFP Committee - so please understand there will be no law suits brought or taken up by a US court to put FSU in the CFP. The CFP operated completely within their authority and rules which, in the 4 team CFP era, have no automatic selection criteria for undefeated teams or Conference Champions. There is no requirement for the CFP to rank an undefeated Power 5 Conference champion in the top 4. Just because it has never been done before and the CFP committee weighted one of their selection protocol principles more heavily this year does not give cause for a law suit. You can read the Protocols that were established in 2012 where they clearly state that injuries can affect a teams standing in the CFP. Every Conference agreed to be governed by the CFP's Protocols and the decision reached from those protocols regardless of whether they agree with it or not. Here are the Protocols - pay particular attention to the Principles tab, last bullet.

https://collegefootballplayoff.com/sports/2016/10/24/selection-committee-protocol.aspx

2. The CFP Committee is not an evil cabal of SEC/Big10/ESPN homers looking to keep the ACC out of the CFP. The committee is made up of the following 13 members:

Chis Ault - Retired head coach at Nevada where he spent most of his career
Mitch Barnhart - AD at Kentucky
Boo Corrigan - AD NC State
Chet Gladchuk - AD Navy Academy
Jim Grobe - Retired head coach of Wake Forest, Baylor and numerous other non SEC/Big10 schools
Mark Harlan - AD Utah
Warde Manuel - AD Michigan
David Sayler - AD Miami of Ohio
Will Shields - retired football player - Pro Football Hall of Fame player who graduated from Nebraska in 1993
Gene Taylor - AD Kansas State
Joe Taylor - Former head coach of numerous HBC institutions
Rod West - Group President, Utility Operations for Entergy Corporation with degrees from Notre Dame and Tulane
Kelly Whiteside - Professor, Montclair State University with degrees from Columbia and Rutgers

Notice only 2 of the members have an affiliation with the SEC/Big10 and none have worked for ESPN. It is pure delusion to think people like Jim Grobe, Chet Gladchuk, Chris Ault, Joe Taylor, or a Journalist Professor - Kelly Whiteside, and the others are going to allow 2 total members of the 13 who are affiliated with the SEC/BIG10 to implement some plan to give those conferences an advantage or implement a favored conference of ESPN.

3. Reasonable people have disagreements and differences of opinion all the time. It is not unreasonable for two people to choose the CFP "best 4" and come up with a different list based on criteria that each weighs differently.

Boo Corrigan stated in an interview yesterday that the decision to rank FSU #5 was NOT a unanimous decision. That means at least one or more of the CFP Committee members agreed with some on this board that FSU should be in the top 4. However, the majority of the CFP Committee felt that the injury to Jordan Travis was an important limiting factor to FSU's future on-field performance in comparison to the other teams vying for the top 4 spots in the CFP. Fair or unfair, deserving or undeserving has nothing to do with the decision - informed CFP Committee members followed their protocols and made a decision within the scope/limits of their duties.

Once again say with me..."Reasonable people can disagree but at the end of the day a democratic majority of voting members of the CFP Committee determined the current FSU team is not one of the top 4 teams going forward based on the established CFP selection protocols"....

Now that we have that settled - please jump straight to the "Acceptance" stage of your grief as Clemson has way more important fish to fry than dwelling on a CFP decision that is already done and won't be changing.

TLDR version:
1. The CFP Committee acted completely within their authority and principles of the CFP Selection Committee Protocols established and agreed upon by all Conferences in 2012. There is no basis for a law suit and no judge/court in their right mind is going to touch this.

2. The CFP Committee is not run by a cabal of SEC/Big10/ESPN influenced homers set on favoring those conferences, Vegas betting lines, or ESPNs desires at the expense of the ACC. Look at the CFP members bios and that becomes abundantly clear to any intellectually honest person.

3. Reasonable people can disagree and there was some internal disagreement regarding FSU's position by members of the CFP Committee. Regardless, when the CFP selection protocols were applied and a vote taken - a majority found FSU not to be within the top 4.

4. Time to move on from a CFP outcome that ain't going to change no matter how much one may disagree with it... in other words it's time for "Acceptance"...

And will fall on deaf emotional ears.

It’s an invitational tournament with no automatic qualifiers. UGA got ####ed over as much as FSU imho.

Since Alabama beat UGA, are you saying you think both should have gotten in?

I’m saying that with +100 FBS teams and a four team invitational tournament with no set criteria- teams will and do get dicked over.

I think UGA and FSU both have arguments as to why they should have been in the tournament.

But in the end I would have voted the way the committee did this time.

Good post. Bottomline, it still boils down to their opinion. And their opinion says that the play on the field does not matter. Winning games does not matter. I am not a Booger fan, but he got it right, IMHO.

I think you assume they have no bias and for me thats a big assumption.

I still wonder why the benefit of the doubt ALWAYS goes to the SEC. Its not a level playing field. No amount of ACC OOC wins over the SEC will ever change their mind. Why?

Other teams have made the playoffs with significant injuries. You better believe if Alabama's qb went down we would hear all the bragging about their stacked roster and next man up.

Dont blame people for calling out the obvious bias.

Doesn't matter how long the write up is...... bottom line the 'committee' decided on subjective criteria to make the final call. not results based.....

In reality even the facts are not completely factual. The whole SOS is really not factual. It has a lot of balance based on the actual rankings of the teams. This we know is subjective as the polls tend to be biased based on the thought one conference is historically better than another.

The BCS with all its computer rankings was still not completely factual because of all this.

The SEC bias brings teams up in rankings based on this and that influences the SOS.

At least the NFL as a set criteria, based on winning, to make it to the playoffs. This is what I want and I believe most fans want. Set criteria that can be measured in wins and losses that will get you into the playoffs.

I know it may not be completely viable, but they can get it at least close. Win your conference and your in type of thing.

Everything you said is true. Looking at the rankings, I would assume the committee believed FSU in its current state is better than UGA , Ohio State and Oregon. When you said the committee mentioned FSU’s ranking was not unanimous, I would again assume, many thought FSU should have been no higher than 8th. The gymnastics the committee went through to carry out their narrative is mind numbing. This no way to determine a national championship.

You would not have written that rationalization of a ###### decision if it had been Clemson and not FSU.

Everyone knows it would be you leading the "woe is me" mantra if it was Clemson who got screwed. If you are a Clemson supporter.

All of those AD's bristled when FSU attacked the ACC GOR which was approved by all of the ACC ADs who were led around by the nose by Swofford. It reflects badly on their profession. As it should. Pay back time?

than favorable treatment by the CFP?? Absolutely not as I'm 100% Clemson all the time. If Clemson were in the same boat as FSU - I'm quite sure I would not be happy about it and would very much say so. But being unhappy about a decision within the rules/authority of the CFP doesn't mean I unplug my brain and look at things without any intellectual honesty as a chunk of people on this board are doing.

A lot of people on this board - including some of the emotionally distressed posting in this thread - have gotten to a point of utter ridiculous. By ridiculous I mean accusing the CFP of being "rigged" in favor of the SEC/Big10/ESPN, calling for lawsuits to "right this wrong", and the ultimate stupid idea - having all ACC teams boycott the bowl season in some kind of unified ACC baby tantrum.

Good post. I can see both sides having some credit to their arguments/opinions. It was a weird year because the PAC 12 actually played good football and got into the top four. There is a bias towards the SEC but it’s because they tend to have better football and bring in more ratings. The reality is that the ACC is a mediocre conference these days and FSU looked mediocre against Louisville. It is what it is. FSU had their day for being mad and sad, now they should get over it and focus on beating UGA.
I do believe that going forward, with the 12 team playoff, it will be better for teams and CFB.

If this was strictly about FSU not having Jordan Travis why didn’t they drop them last week after the 2nd string QB played against Florida? The only thing different this week was a temporary 3rd string QB and a conference championship win against a 14th place opponent.

The reason we haven't accepted it yet is because this was the first year the mask truly came off of the committee. We had our theories about years a past, but this time the bias and agenda were in your face and they said "so, what are you going to do about it"? And since this was a mask off moment for the committee, it can only get worse going forward.
