Lake Murray Bass

Got a tournament coming up on the 23rd. Anybody have or know a pattern or current technique that’s catching largemouth. I read that the “Fishers of Men” tournament last weekend took 28.36lb to win and the total tournament averaged 3.7lb/fish and 66 boats weighed in 306 bass, so it seems they are moving in for prespawn. Putting in at Buffalo Creek!
Any advice would be appreciated

I don't know about Spud's fishing prowess. If he was catching all of those fish he claims to have caught, surely he would have already invited us to a fish fry. He may be a little peeved at me because I posted I was getting tired of having to lie down to look at the photos of his fish. I keep wondering why he always turns his camera 90 degrees.

I heard it's frowned upon, but if you can get away with it.

It's not cheating when you start off with a crappie jig

then tie a hook to the tail of the crappie you catch, then another hook on the largemouth you caught with the crappie and so on and so on. Soon, you'll be bringing Moby D!ck up to the table to be weighed.

Spud, like all good fisherman, will not share where his honey holes are.

I prefer a half stick dynamite, then sort out the biggest, put them in the wet well till they are active again. Then put a hook in their mouth to show I "actually" caught them. Then wait til weigh in!

Throw A-rigs over and around cane. Crystal lake has plenty of it.

Putting in at Buffalo Creek, that’s quite a ride to Crystal lake isn’t it?

It can be but sometimes you gotta let her rip tater chip. If the lake isn't off limits during the week of the tourney I would put in at Dreher and fish around there.
I'm no Murray expert but I fish the CBC and came in 5th around this time last year on Murray.
I'm sure there is cane in Buffalo as well. Just use your graphs, putt around, and scan the sonar.

Come on people. There is no cane. The lake is down 10 feet. Fish the long points with slow moving worm. No weight. Bite is great.

If that's the case then yes. Did not know the lake was still down that far. If it's been down for a while I'm sure there are new piles.
It was full and clear last year. I've been too busy filling the boat with crappie on the Hill to care about large lips right now.
Hopefully you find them.

They used to have a huge Santee cooper crappie tournament where they tagged the fish. Do they still do it?

Caught several over points yesterday pulling planer biards for striper. Probably doesnt help but they are very active right now. I would throw a-rigs with small swimbaits. Seems small threadfin is the preferred food now over herring and gizzards.

Craw colored crank might not be a bad option either.

Contact Anthony Gagliardi

He's a pro bass fishing champion, lives on Lake Murray around the corner from Buffalo Creek and is a Clemson Engineering grad.
Second choice is contact the UofSC Bass Fishing Team since Murray is their home lake.

Looks like 70% chance of rain on Saturday, may setup for a good Spinnerbait or A-rig bite. We plan to fish hard hitting as many rocky points as possible with craw colored shallow squarebills, Chatterbaits, and spinnerbaits!!
Fingers crossed!
