Does anyone else kinda hate the NFL?

Jan 4, 2015, 5:54 PM

Yeah the athletes are great and the players are super talented. But the gameplay just feels so mechanical. Everything feels calculated and planned, which I guess some people enjoy. There's no fun in the game and the teams are so so conservative no matter what.

I just cannot get into the game nearly as much. Even the super bowl. I am into big college games much more than any NFL game.

The pro game is different.
Your paid to win,or you go home.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I just cannot watch them. I love to watch the kids play, but

Jan 4, 2015, 5:58 PM

"some" of the pros just seem to have an entitlement attitude...narcistic and indulged.

The nfl is my favorites sports league. Best playoffs by far. Really don't understand how football fans don't like the nfl.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

if they acted like adults when they made a TD or tackle

Jan 4, 2015, 6:03 PM

instead of dancing like 12 year old girls, I'd respect them a little bit more.

The biggest irony in sports is that college players and high school players have to act like like adults when they score lest they get penalized, but NFL players can spin around like schoolgirls seeing their first snow.

Come on NFL, do something about that.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: if they acted like adults when they made a TD or tackle

Jan 4, 2015, 6:08 PM

Showmanship?

It's why the NFL is the premier sports league in the United States. It's entertainment and can even appeal to those who aren't die-hard football fans.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, its entertainment. Honestly, you

Jan 4, 2015, 6:12 PM

see it in college a ton, too, and alot of times when these goofballs are trailing the other team by 30. THAT is when it makes no sense.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

so why do they not allow it in NCAA/high school?

Jan 4, 2015, 6:14 PM [ in reply to Re: if they acted like adults when they made a TD or tackle ]

because it's taunting and poor sportsmanship.

NFL is the premier sports league because of gambling and fantasy stuff. You can't even debate that fact.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: so why do they not allow it in NCAA/high school?

Jan 4, 2015, 6:23 PM

Well you CAN debate that, based on the fact that people bet on college games and do fantasy leagues for that too. But I honestly don't care enough about that particular angle to expend any energy doing so.

It's not really poor sportsmanship with the understanding that both teams do it and it's for the fans. Again, showmanship. College players aren't afforded that opportunity due to their current indentured servant status. That's another issue for another day...but they don't do it quite as much pretty much because the NCAA and other higher ups "say so."

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The "showboating" may entertain some folks, not me.

Jan 4, 2015, 6:54 PM

It's just a distraction. Act like you have been there before.

i can understand the touchdowns

Jan 4, 2015, 6:15 PM [ in reply to if they acted like adults when they made a TD or tackle ]

but the defensive players who do a full out dance after every sack are ridiculous. sometimes they do it after average tackles.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They have been doing it since the 80's or maybe earlier.

Jan 4, 2015, 6:21 PM

It isn't like this started 10 years ago.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: i can understand the touchdowns

Jan 4, 2015, 6:24 PM [ in reply to i can understand the touchdowns ]

They do the same thing in college. The difference in the extent of celebration is really overstated if you watch both leagues all the time. Yes, the NFL does it a lot more but it's not on every play and it's not like college players don't celebrate routine tackles too. Maybe CLEMSON doesn't do it...but have you ever watched a frickin SEC game?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Different than college but I like it.

Jan 4, 2015, 6:00 PM

Some people hate college for the opposite reasons - sloppy and frequently poor play. I love college but I can kind of understand why some wouldn't.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Does anyone else kinda hate the NFL?

Jan 4, 2015, 6:00 PM

Not really. I can see why some would say it was boring compared to the college game. But no, I don't hate it.

I also like how the media and "committees" have no influence over the outcome of the season. It's all won on the field.

Re: Does anyone else kinda hate the NFL?

Jan 4, 2015, 6:14 PM

I like the nfl and watch some games but there isn't any team I have to sit down and watch. I can tell the difference in college and pro. To me college is better. I pull for the panthers but I don't claim to be a "fan", cause I'm a fan of the Tigers and my love for Clemson is way beyond any other team. When the panthers lose I get over it in about 4 seconds. When clemson loses its much much worse. One thing that has made me want to watch more nfl games Is fantasy football. That is fun, especially when you play in a league where you know everybody.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Same here...

Jan 4, 2015, 6:20 PM

But I dont pull for the Panthers. I watch NFL and enjoy the NFL but don't have a favorite team at all. I do prefer college though over NFL any day of the week... to me college is much less predictable and more exciting.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My opinion is if you don't have a dog in the hunt,

Jan 4, 2015, 6:27 PM

then you are more likely to not have as much interest. I couldn't imagine watching the NFL without a team to root for.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Theres plenty of at interest when $$ is at stake

Jan 4, 2015, 6:33 PM

which is why I always have interest but I dont have a favorite team. Clemson is my favorite team.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't gamble and never have, but not

Jan 4, 2015, 6:40 PM

knocking it or anything. I have just always watched sports from a fan point of view and not like the players are horses out on the track.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I feel ya.. Thats one of the main reasons I bet on NFL tho

Jan 4, 2015, 6:45 PM

is to drive the interest level up some... I love football, but since I dont have a favorite NFL team, I suddenly have a favorite once I have a little green on them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I can't bet. With my job it would be an NCAA violation***

Jan 4, 2015, 6:49 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'd suggest not betting then...

Jan 4, 2015, 6:52 PM

;)

You can't bet professional sports tho? And how would they know if you bet on a website?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i cant bet on any sport that the NCAA has a championship in

Jan 4, 2015, 6:59 PM

so thats every sport basically. The only things I could bet on are poker and horse racing

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: yes I am. I used to be pretty big into poker

Jan 4, 2015, 7:26 PM

Don't hate it, still watch it but I agree with you. College is so much better.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Its like watching two corporations compete.

Jan 4, 2015, 6:21 PM

Its like watching Blue Cross compete against Cigna. Who cares?

The players don't care where they play as long as they get paid. I laugh when I hear someone say there are "rivals" in pro football. How can there be? The players and coaches would be on the opposing team if they paid more.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Its like watching two corporations compete.

Jan 4, 2015, 6:29 PM

In college, the players don't care where they play as long as they have nice facilities, it's close to home, the school has coaches they like and there's an opportunity for a better education/social experience than the next school.

See what I did there?

Again, I'm most referring to CFB at large and not necessarily Clemson. It (Clemson) is special because it's different than the landscape at large in those regards.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You don't see many star players move from school to

Jan 4, 2015, 6:47 PM

school, regardless of the reasons. I think there's a bit more to it than something as superficial like in teh NFL as how much they make.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Free Agency kilt the NFL. Teams moving around didnt

Jan 4, 2015, 6:33 PM

help either

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Does anyone else kinda hate the NFL?

Jan 4, 2015, 6:35 PM

I like the nfl but the lack of creativity is awful. Dictator goodell is one thing. Plus the style of play rarely differs. Ace, I form, and shotgun are the only base formations. Little to no option, flexbone, air raid, pistol (there was 2 years ago), mobile QBs, 335, 425, nearly automatic kickers, etc. the one thing that is nice is that statistics are way easier to compare because the league is the same (not conference style) and the players can stay for longer. But there is no constant rebuild process like in college. I like the pros, but college football and more importantly clemson football are my first loves by far.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Does anyone else kinda hate the NFL?

Jan 4, 2015, 8:40 PM

Don't really hate it, but don't watch it often either. Super annoying to see players get fined for wearing the wrong brand of t-shirt/headphones/etc. NFL has totally sold out on corporate sponsorships. I find it impossible to have a favorite team, considering your favorite player's contract can be dumped on a whim. NFL player contracts are a joke... nothing is guaranteed for the guys. Extremely difficult to have a long career in the NFL anymore with the way veterans are so easily dumped for rookies now. Seems like NFLPA has pretty much screwed players in their negotiations on so many levels. It's a business, I get it, but these are the things that have caused me to lose interest in the NFL over the years. The only time I usually check in is to see how former Clemson players are doing, or the rare non-Clemson player who has caught my attention in some way.
