He'd rather give other committed players a chance than have someone come in out of the blue and start over them. I get that. It gives Clemson a unique recruiting angle that others don't have. Now whether it's the smartest move or not, I can't say, but I don't get paid $10 million/year to make these decisions.
I think recruits know that you have a good shot of moving up at Clemson more than at other schools because we do NOT use the portal unless absolutely necessary. And I think "absolutely necessary" would be defined as a position group being almost decimated by injuries and/or transfers.
People don't transfer to hang out on the sidelines. They transfer to start or be 2nd team at worst. Dabo would rather give his recruits that option first and make sure they know that if they work hard and commit then they have a good chance to move up to 1st or 2nd team. I can respect that.

Dabo has shown that if you have talent and earn it you play. Bringing in a transfer doesn't change this and I feel like winning should be more important than hurting a kids feelings. Dabo even starts his son over our other, better receivers. If anything bringing in talented players will only make everyone else better.

I am with you. I don't think we do. We could use another rb now though. We need one with a few years left of eligibility though imo, at least 2 years. The guy would likely be 3rd string whoever comes in.

If he sees a fit for the roster and program, why wouldn't he? He's never said he won't use it, he just prefers HS seniors to enter the program than older kids leaving another program looking for greener pastures.

Well we are losing players who weren't playing and I'd assume the vast majority of players in the portal fall into that category so who should we bring in that couldn't get on the field at their previous school? Obviously there can be one offs but the transfer portal is currently mostly for disaffected players to voice their displeasure at their playing time situation. Most of these players won't wind up anywhere and that'll be it for their football and collegiate careers. Sure if some fifth year senior from where ever who actually played and just wants a change of scenery pops up Dabo should at least talk to them but there will also be 50 other schools interested in speaking with them as well since most of the portal is a cesspool.

I think he has to this year. We have already lost so much to the portal. More will be leaving. Signing late bloomers would be a catastrophic mistake that would set this program behind by so much. The portal is absolutely necessary now.

Read this: There is true agency at the upper talent level of the portal. We are at the level right now. We can have a conversation through channels with a top level player to come play at Clemson. It is a done deal bc it makes the internet.
No CDS is right on the lower level players, but he better get in the game with the big boys.

The problem with getting portal players is that the vast majority of them are dissatisfied and therefore unreliable. Like many of the players leaving Clemson for example. Would you take a player from the portal knowing that he potentially comes with baggage? I can understand Dabo's reluctance in taking portal players. The best players will stick with a program and improve/better themselves in response to adversity/competition for playing time, not run away from it.

Unlikely...if there is ANYTHING we have learned this year is that Dabo is not prone to change the course - especially on things based on his personal belief system. I'd been stunned if we picked up a single player.
