Outside the SEC will give a #### about college football any longer. It would be like killing all the subjects of the kingdom they preside over. They will have ruined the sport they love to brag about. At that point, all they will have is Bama, Georgia, and LSU lording over Vandy, South Carolina, Arkansas, Tennessee, Florida, Miss State, Kentucky, Missouri, etc.
Then, Bama and Georgia can pull away and just play each other 11 times. Kind of like beach volleyball or badminton teams. Nobody will give two #####.

It should include all sports, though - basketball, baseball, softball, gymnastics, the whole enchilada. SEC. SEC. SEC.

Fine by me, but it will destroy the conference. There are a plenty of schools around the entire country, including Clemson, that would have the top viewership. The SEC has its name from bullying the other conferences, so put them in a room by themselves and it’s just masterbation.

SEC is just angry they don't have the power they thought they had. As evidenced by the fact that they didn't get their way with the playoff.

It’s pretty clear that sankey is in the cat bird seat. Make no mistake the SEC does have all the power and any decision they make will fatten their wallets and significantly affect all of college football.

You tell’em HOMER!! Bet you’d unpleasantly surprised with the results of that attempt. Kind of sounds like sec may be peeing their beds about NIL and not being kingpin.

No one outside the SEC is going to be interested in watching what amounts to a regional championship operating under the guise of some type of national championship. Viewers are interested in their own schools. When they are left out of the entire scenario, it's dead. All of the other conferences need to meet and consider adopting an isolationist policy against the SEC should they move forward with this idea. Immediately drop them from their schedules.

No one outside their footprint wants to watch an all SEC playoff. Will fail miserably unless they can start pulling in the biggest brands from the ACC, PAC12 and Big Ten.

When I read the article, I figured that its a power move

b/c the SEC has so much leverage. They're probably figuring that if they go through with this that its either gonna get the other leagues on board with them for playoff expansion (which I do think will happen after the current contract). I also figure they think other power schools might end up breaking away, finally creating a schism between P5/FBS & the NCAA.
I also see it as something that could blow up in their face. The rest of the P5 along with the NCAA might decide to tell them to kick rocks. It won't be quick as CFB is so popular, but if the SEC isn't contending for a legitimate national title with other teams, then there will be a decrease of the league's value & stature as they withdraw from the national level.

Unless you think it's good for your business model to alienate about 75% of the country.

If the SEC brass think they could have an 8 team playoff without blowouts in the first 4 games, they are smoking something funny.

If they go to that 3-6 nine game conference schedule watch the coots start whining that playing Clemson every year would just be too much.

The SEC is not through expanding. They will be at 20 teams before 2025. I am convinced the Texas and Oklahoma thing broke before they were ready and just had to roll with it. At 20 teams they will have more than enough to make a viable playoff without anyone else participating. Then the teams that are left will be left fighting for the scraps that are left. This is the equivalent of what Vince McMahon and WWF did with Jim Crocket Promotions (WCW), Mid Atlantic Wrestling, and all the local circuits back in the 80s. He bought out all the top talent from the other leagues and they all withered away. Now there is just WWE and a distant AEW in the wrestling game. It is coming guys. Do we get on the train or get left behind.

Even at 20, it’s not legit. A national championship must be “national” to have any value. Southeastern is in their name, even with Mizzou.
SEC is currently the most powerful, but they need the participation of the other conferences to be relevant. The Alliance honestly is kinda working since it blocked expansion for now and is forcing Sankey into silly comments/plans.

I think we've all seen this coming. But it will blow up in their face. Let them do it. Then they will have an SEC champion. The rest of the country will have a National Champion.

What happens if the other Power 5 conferences say: okay, we will not play any SEC teams in the regular season?

What's the point? They will have already played each other during the regular season. Who wants reruns?? They can proclaim themselves national champions, but it doesn't make it so.

All that will be is a glorified SEC championship. Big freaking deal.
I hope everyone else would agree to not play any SEC teams. I’m perfectly content not playing the Coots anymore if it means isolating the SEC, leaving them to do their own circle jerk.

This would be the start of a super conference. If they do this, the SEC would cherry pick teams from other conferences to join. ie Clemson, Ohio St, FSU, Michigan, SO Cal etc
