Don’t understand the new sports and facilities

Feb 6, 2022, 7:18 PM

Where is the money coming from? If football dropped off some and we had millions less to work with how we gonna pay these bills? Is this not going to keep us from paying coaches of major programs less than our competitors? Seems a bad financial decision. Don’t get me wrong as I’m not against any of the sports programs as such.

Should we leave it like it was at my first game in 1953

No one said anything about no changes since 1953. I am asking a financial question. In my house I can’t get myself in more debt than I can get myself out of. My question is Clemson with looking at our debt load now doing that?

They have a lot more money than we all know about or realize.

Plus, if you need to borrow, now’s the time to do it.

Interest rates are low but about to soar.

Of course they have looked at the financial risks. Are you suggesting that you have some knowledge that Clemson athletics is turning a blind eye to some risk? Otherwise bringing this up is only an attempt to create a concern where none is needed

Have you heard of Title 9?

I know about title 9 but it can be balanced sometimes by cutting Mens sports. Are we going to try to spend our way out to meet title 9. Dark days are coming for this economy in the future and sports programs are going to get hit hard.

We are 30 trillion in debt as a nation and you say dark days are coming? For your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren the dark days are already here. Their diminished future is more important than some college athletic program and where we will find money to pay future coaches. Political parties will raise taxes to get more revenue. Clemson will merely raise tuition.

They will also raise IPTAY dues levels, season ticket prices, concessions and parking fees. All kinds of ways to raise money.

I don’t know about you but I’ve about reached my limit of Iptay concessions gas cost of tickets etc. I’ve been Iptay since 1978 and the cost is reaching the top for me now that I’m retired. I am in the orange section to try to contain cost. I guess debt does not matter in the world we live in. As you say they can raise Iptay price of tickets and my coke is nearly $5 now. Clemson used to be a place they focused on a few things but tried ti find them and do them well. That might be changing.

Yes future generations will have to handle this debt. The can is being kicked down the road and there will be a payday someday.

In some ways there is no choice. Clemson in not in compliance with Title IX and thus has to either add women’s sports or cut men’s. Clemson elected to add. Once the decision was made to add the sports there is a financial obligation to support all athletes in a similar way as the others (thus they are building “player lounges” across all the sports).

Finances of an athletic program than you do. I believe our people are best in class and I’m ecstatic that they aren’t taking their cues from message boards.

Since you’re gonna continue posting the same topic over and over again I’m just gonna start copying and pasting my previous responses. This is what I said to you last week when you posted virtually the same beech.

We’ve won enough national championships in football and now we should reinvest in the womens downhill mogul and bobsled for example. Just kidding…

That is a question I am sure thousand of fans are asking themselves. In all fairness I believe the BOT, the President and the AD owe to the public a detailed audit of Clemson’s financial health and a report as to where each solar is going and where are the fund’s coming from for future projects unless it’s a large anonymous donation . I would think all of college’s and universities especially those that are state schools would have to justify additional spending.

Maybe some of the players are going to invest some of their NIL ?????? into their school’s new projects. Maybe have a facility named after them. Lol ?? ( a little sarcasm ).

Serious question. Can a player use Their NIL money to buy a house on Lake Keowee or Lake Hartwell. Then live their while they attend Clemson and play sports?? Or has the NCAA put certain restrictions on how they can use NIL ??????. For example do players have to maintain a certain grade point average, save a certain amount, or pay estimated taxes on their NIL ?????????

Don’t misunderstand my post. I want Clemson to do whatever they feel is necessary to build better facilities for student as well as student athletes to keep ahead of the competition in academic’s and sports.

I love Clemson. I am proud to be a fan and the father of a Clemson graduate 2015. I know upgrades are a necessity so Clemson will continue to be one of the best schools in the country. But after a couple of bad years financially, I would like to know where the $$$$ will come from for any future products.

Now there is a smart man questioning things instead of just saying let our AD worry about it. The AD can bail a lot easier than the fans and others that depend on Clemson.

To one of the points in the original post, my take is Clemson Football is paying every invoice at every ACC university based upon Swofford's "share the wealth" policies.
