Negative controversy of "Storming" the field after winning

is an interesting & hot bed topic too.
Never looked better than when TN fans "stormed" field after beating #1/2 Bama and took goal post down & out of stadium (maybe to river?).
But, do you remember that Clemson was 1st college football program that installed a hydraulic goal post system to combat injuries (many had occurred as well as at DV and caused lawsuits).
Oh, Clemson fans don't storm, they " Meet At The PAW" to celebrate! Ha..

No idea what the controversy is. We won a huge game against one the highest ranked teams we have played at home in years and fans were excited. Why not and the best practice is to not a stink about what others think.

The controversy is that storming the field is typically reserved for huge wins and big upsets. I cringe when we do it every game.
It’s made worse by these stupid sportscasters (who have to be well aware of the practice by now) always acting shocked and poke fun at it.
Personally, I think it looks lame and wish the students would knock it off, but I’m from a different time, I guess…

What different time? We've been running on the field after games for literally decades. You can look at games from the 70s and 80s on youtube and they are doing it.

This is pretty simple - ACC allows fans on the field, SEC does not. Thus the fine on TN when they allowed it or failed to prevent it. As for whether it can be prevented, it certainly can. I remember having one leg over the rail at the Orange Bowl when we beat Nebraska. Then in my exuberant state I saw Police and dogs circling the field and left via portal as requested. Pretty simple. The tradition of fans on the field is going away at some point when someone important gets hurt.

You must not be very familiar with Clemson football. The gathering at the paw happens every home game, win or lose, regardless of opponent and has probably been happening longer than you have been alive. It is not typically reserved for a huge win or big upset. It’s what we do and one of the things that sets Clemson apart from most. I’ll bet the recruits in hand yesterday loved it when they learned it happens every game. Someone was complaining on here earlier today about playing Hells Bells on the loudspeaker and their complaint was too many other teams do it and we need to be unique. Well this is one of the ways Clemson is unique.

If it's so inevitable then why hasn't it been shut down in the decades it's been going on? It's possible sure, but it's not inevitable lol

Two reasons

1) Everything is on video now and everything goes straight to social media now. There probably have been incidents in the past but they didn't become public.
2) There's more and more of a push to rid crowd storming from football all of the time. Eventually Clemson will cave to the pressure and end the tradition. It's only gonna take a little nudge for them to do so.
Also, if we were to join the SEC, they have a pretty strict policy against it, and I doubt they would bend their rules to allow for our tradition.

... will endure!
If someone gets hurt, it will be because over-enthusiastic students and inebriated adults have swelled the crowd after a big win. That’s when the field actually gets “rushed” and it happens even at schools and in conferences where it is outlawed and there are fines.
Going out on the field is a great Clemson tradition that goes back to when I was a child running out *(win, lose, or tie)* to mingle with my heroes and to get a chin strap or a sweat band.
I’m 73 years old now, and the meeting at the MIDDLE (long before the paw existed) has been a Clemson tradition all my life.
It’s a tradition that needs to be respected and protected.

Then there was Woodie Hayes who I paraphrase “ These punks don’t play for The Buckeyes they don’t belong on our field”

I did it in the 60's as a kid, begging for a glove or chin strap.

As a kid in the early 70s I stepped onto the field after a game for the first time and got to talk to the players. It was an Awesome experience for a young kid like me.
Over the years I’ve fielded questions from fans of other schools about why we rushed the field after such an average win. I always calmly point out we’ve done it for decades after every game. It’s not a celebration of the win. Then I point out my experience as a kid and ask them how many times they went out onto their favorite teams field after a game and how the experience would’ve been for them as a Kid. It’s a profound question with a solid impact.
