Expect Stanford, Cal and SMU to get invite. Cal and

Aug 23, 2023, 7:49 PM

Stanford for football, basketball and women's basketball. I hope Clemson maintains its no vote. By doing so, perhaps they can use the expansion and oddness of the new setup to say that is not what they signed up for in 2016.

On the bright side, at least Stanford and Cal didn't find their way into the BigTen taking up two more spots.

split. The ‘partial’ written in several articles has to do with shares of conference and media payouts.

I did read in one article the ACC was considering Stanford and Cal for basketball and football only. ND is partially in so why not.

Regardless, I hope Clemson sticks to no vote. To vote

yes, would be saying once again that you are ok with the circumstances. That could bite them in court if it comes to that. I hope Clemson doesn't see its going to pass and therefore decides to go ahead and make it unanimous for the press release.

Why would the 4 “no’s” now say it’s a go? Has anything changed. I’m missing something; what is the upside to something like this.

More money.

The western teams are not asking for money.

It doesn’t have to be the 4 no’s. It just has to be one of the four.

I say let’s vote them in on the condition that current ACC members can negotiate GOR if they want to exit the conference.

Why would the rest of the ACC agree to that?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You mean why would ESPN agree to that?

Aug 24, 2023, 12:37 AM

The ACC collectively signed tbe agreement with ESPN.

There are TWO (2) sides of a contract.

One might even say they're are three sides to this agreement.

I've not read the various agreements, but it is difficult to imagine the agreements would authorize the conference to unilaterally permit one school to simply opt out any significant element. Of course, UNC is in the mix so ya never know.

The Western teams are not asking to be compensated for the first few years.

So adding them makes CLEMSON’s pay out larger the first few years. That means clemson can’t claim a damage in court to get out of the GOR for the first few years.

The writing is on the wall. Clemson and FSU will be gone in a few years. And these western teams are going to help fill the void.

I guess in my thought process, though limited, this would not move the needle as far as more dollars. I understand in theory that adding more teams would add more money but with these 3 I can’t see it being close to game changing.

Did you know that there are very rural parts of California and also many conservatives? Did you stop and think that there could possibly be people there that have the same ideology as you?

But my all means, don't let that stop you from making genius posts like this one though.

Those areas of Ca that you just described are no where near Stanford or California schools. Yes, there are conservatives there but they have no voice whatsoever. I say we leave the CA schools alone and watch them struggle with the political and financial mess they helped create.

Let's be different from the SEC and B1G and make a decision that is good for overall university excellence and tradition and is not completely driven by money. We have a great academic tradition in the ACC and the addition of Stanford and Cal enhances that greatly.
