I have never liked to listen to Coach BB after games, win or lose. But this year and last year, his comments show how hands off he is and how he does not have answers. See below from yesterday's post game press conference as I isolate with << >> the glaring examples:
BROWNELL: “Just congratulations to Boston College. Thoroughly outplayed us. I’m disappointed in our performance. We haven't done that very much this year at all. << I don't really understand.” >>
“Defensively I thought we were okay, but we didn’t get any defensive rebounds. Held them to 38 percent shooting, giving up nine offensive rebounds and then 40 points out of that, << something wasn’t — we just weren't quite ready.” >>
“Ultimately that’s on me. << I don’t really understand it. I thought we were. >> But we looked a half step slow and lacked urgency, and then I thought when we got behind, << that's probably not great for us. >> We haven't been behind a lot this year, and we probably panicked a little bit, and we had a hard time. Again, give Boston College a lot of credit. I thought they played with great confidence, and Jaeden Zackery was terrific.”
“Post is obviously an outstanding player, so they can spread you out. Claudell Harris made some threes. I just thought they played with a lot of confidence and swagger and [were] very free and loose. << For whatever reason, we did not.” >>
I can give some reasons, but after 14 seasons at Clemson and his experiences elsewhere, he should know what to do and how to adjust.
I thought it was a mistake hiring a "mid-major" head coach 14 years ago. And it's a mistake today and you've highlighted some good examples as to why. He's in over his head.
