That was a horrible decision! What was he thinking? I remember that Jad Dean had been in a major funk and was missing extra points and we wanted him to hit the game winner vs. our arch rival!!! Major coaching error, which led to an upset loss.

that it would take some football knowledge, or knowledge of the team ("that guy" instead of Merriweather, and not knowing that Davis had been the better back) to know why Merriweather got taken out?

Davis was the better running back, and although Merriweather had been moving the ball, we all have no idea whether that would've continued. To blame Bowden for Davis not getting into the endzone, and then for Dean missing the kick at the end, is to engage in some pretty flagrant hindsight.

Davis was ineffective that entire game. He wasn't the same back after that shoulder injury vs. VT. Now, the clear choice would have been CJ Spiller, who was killing the coots that day, but the dirty #### coots twisted his ankle in a pile and got him out of the game when Reggie came in. It was the simple coddling of a player that Bowden pulled that day and was a symptom of why the man couldn't get over the hump at Clemson. When Freeman and others talk about "changing the culture" under Dabo, THIS is the type of thing they are talking about most.

at that moment, Merriweather was the best running back. A mac truck would not stop him at that point. Merriweather had gained more yds in 3 carries than Davis had in 11 carries. Davis was averging 1.7 yds per carry to Reggie's 7.7. That was the dumbest move TB made as a coach at Clemson and I will never forgive him for it.

Being born and raised in the Palmetto State, I have always firmly believed(contrary to what some out-of-staters want to say) that South Carolina players just naturally WANT the win in the rivalry more.
To have a senior RB from South Carolina in his final home game, running the ball like his hair was on fire at that critical juncture vs. SCAR and to take him out in favor of an injured and largely ineffective guy from Atlanta was a huge coaching mistake IMHO.

smash-mouth a game as I've ever seen. Both Auburn and Clemson were beating on each other. One of the few times after a loss where I was happy with the team's performance. The other that I can think of is Clemson vs. Miami '05 in Death Valley -- Triple Overtime. I left both games thinking that the Tigers put it all out there and just came up a bit short.

Even Auburn coaches and players admitted that was the most physical game of the year. Coots hated hearing that the National Champions toughest game of the year was against a lowly ACC team and not a rugged SEC power like they thought they were!
