Georgia or Florida State? Next year

Has anybody been to both Athens and Tallahassee? Now that I have a little bit of money I'm looking to go to more away games. I go to cootlumbia every other year and have been to GT and Unc but I want to go to Athens and Tallahassee. I'm only 24, couple years removed from the citadel, bsce 12. I guess I'm wondering whether to go to Athens or Tallahassee next year. I would appreciate actual knowledge ( good/bad ). From what I witnessed from both home games this year is both fans are arrogant as ####. Better bar life in Athens I'm told.. Thoughts...

It's amazing. I make the trip from Clemson to some of Georgia's home games if Clemson isn't playing within a reasonable distance.

Athens is cheaper in cost and travel. And nothing like making some "nearby" curvey new friends if you know what I mean....... HA HA

1.)Who knows for sure when you might have the chance to see Clemson play there again for the foreseeable future. We will end up in Tallahassee every other year anyways.
2.) Athens is presumably closer to you.
3.) Athens is a college town.
I've been to FSU three times and the campus is a great place to see(never stayed in Tallahassee, always Panama City on the beach). Never been to Athens but would definitely think it should be a good visit.

I was thinking Athens myself. I went to Jordan Hare for a citadel game maybe 10 years ago.. Pretty cool watching the eagle fly in I must say. I also made a trip to Tuscaloosa for a weekend last year, to visit a crimsonette, shook ajs hand. It was the weekend after they lost to A&M but same wknd Kansas state and oregon lost making them number 2. Just a big Clemson fan and college football fan that's interested in attending several college football games around the nation!

Been to FSU once (1998), didn't think much of it. Thought the campus was pretty nice, but Tallahassee was a dump. But that was a long time ago and I think we lost like 48-0 or something.
Outside of the reputation some Dawg fans have for visitors, I've heard great things about Athens. I'm looking forward to it.

Athens is a bucket list college football game day destination. Rooms are difficult to find and expensive if you do. If there is anyway possible to make a weekend out of it I would. Great bars, restaurants and everything is walkable if you can find a place downtown. Try the Holiday Inn or Holiday Inn express. You are looking at $3-400 per night two night minimum. It will be hot the stadium can be brutally hot if its not a night game.

Unfortunately, and quiet stupidly of me, I left two tiger flags on my car that were broke when I got back to my car. Should've known better with that crowd.

You know FSU will be an available trip every other year. However, our schedule with UGa isn't as regular. Take the trip to Athens while you can. FSU will still be there later on.

I'm only 5 years older than you and can say that it depends on what you and the people you are going with are looking for? I married into a UGA family so I've been to Athens many times. A friend and I went to Tallahassee in 2012. Both can be fun but both can get you in trouble too.
If you're single and looking for women then again it depends on what you like? UGA is going to have similar girls to Clemson. More conservative, classy, sun dresses and cowgirl boots. Beautiful girls you would take home to Momma. FSU you are going to see more cutoff jeans tank tops and tan lines. Most are hot but you wouldn't take home to Momma.
I definitely give Athens bar scene the edge. They have a ton of bars in the Downtown area that are walking distance from one another. At FSU we parked in the Downtown area and had a nice walk to one of the famous college bars down there called Potbelly's. There was another bar right next to it but those were really the only 2 in that area. Both were pretty run down and felt like I was back in college at a Fraternity house party. Point being you'll get more variety in Athens because of proximity of a lot of different bars.
As far as fans go. ANYWHERE you go fans will be fans. Some will welcome you, some will ignore you, some will taunt you, some will talk to you nicely, some will make you want to fight. Interactions with fans is all based individually. It also depends on you and your crew and how y'all are acting/felling. As much as we want to think are fans are the best in the world we have sour apples too. I spoke with the father of a band member at FSU who told me the year before when he went to Death Valley he was cussed at, spit on at the game and some fans heckled things you wouldn't believe. So again there is no telling what you may or may not run into.
Sorry this is so long but I hope it helps. If you have an specific questions I'll do my best to answer for you.

Athens is a better pure college town. If you are going purely for bar life and the college town experience I'd say go to UGA.
FSU fans are very hospitable we were down there in 2007. They have the occasional few bad apples that every fan base does but for the most part they'll tailgate with you and talk football. They usually have an event on the Friday before a home game in downtown Tallahassee. Tennessee street is where all the college bars are if that's your thing but the town also has set of more "grown-up" bars to hang out in as well. Not to be condescending but at my age, picking through a crowd of underage drunks isn't all that fun any more.
I've never been to UGA when we played them but I've heard a lot of stories... few of them good. But Athens is a great town and I've been there several times for a weekend trip to see a band or visit friends.
If I were going to go to a game as the opponent, I'd go to Tallahassee. If i were going to go to a game as a neutral observer and make a weekend out of it and see some good music as well, I'd take Athens.

I'd say go to Athens. Both are fun trips, but Athens is a great college town, it's an easy drive, the bar scene is great, and you'll have a good time. Since we haven't played down there since 2002, you might want to make this your trip.
But you'll have a lot of fun in Tallahassee too. Both are great trips.

Used to live in Athens in the 90s

I'm a lot older than you, but can recommend Athens for a number of reasons. It's a great drinking town because you can get around downtown without a car. Walking is really the only way to go. In the 90s at least cabs were cheap, too, if you need to get to your hotel.
Other reasons: still a very strong band culture. 40 Watt Club. Rebuilt Georgia Theater (after fire).
For what it's worth by far the coolest joint for drinking is/was the Globe. Beers and whiskeys you can't even find in Atlanta. Great place to people watch. Used to bump into Michael Stipe when I lived there, and others in the Athens "famous" crowd like athletes, or stars in town who were filming nearby. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=214970935352421&set=a.181389935377188.1073741826.181389835377198&type=1&theater

are better towards the opposition in Tallahassee. Very classy. Most of the folks are cool in Athens, but they certainly have a "strain" of their fanbase that are related to capon fans that you have to watch out for.
