Golf Course Question/Help

Looking for some suggestions on golf courses in the Greenville area. My 10 year old godson has become a huge Clemson fan and I am planning a trip for him and his family this fall to see his first Clemson game. We will more than likely stay in Greenville so the wives can do their thing, while the fellas play some golf on Friday. Suggestions on some nice semi-private or public courses within an hour drive of Greenville would be appreciated? Would love something with a mountain feel for view. Already have the Walker Course in mind as well...

Cherokee Valley is the first that comes to mind. Checks all those boxes.

DEfinitely would play Legacy Pines, Link O'Tryon, Willow Creek or Riverfalls for Public/Semi-Private courses. I was a PGA Professional in that area for 11 years, live in Ft Lauderdale now. I've heard the folks at Legacy Pines have done a great job with that course. You can also play the Walker Course, on Campus at Clemson, or for great mountain views, the guys that own and manage Legacy Pines also have a course on Hwy 11, not very far from Clemson, great shape I understand, beautiful views, "The Rock".

It's probably 45-50 minutes. Some beautiful scenery, and a decent little track.

Here are a few I would recommend:

Willow Creek
Southern Oaks
Verdae Greens
River Falls
Furman University
There are several others (Thornblade, Cliff's Valley, Pebble Creek, Green Valley, etc.) but most of them are private.

River Falls is up I85 in Boiling Springs (not too far though.) Cherokee valley is nice too but also is up the road a bit going toward asheville. Then you've got Furman which is a good one thats not too far away from Greenville. Links O Tryon i like as well but is about a 30-45 min drive out of Greenville. If i had to choose i'd probably hit Furman or Verdae. Both are close and both are good public courses. I haven't played them in a while but Furman is usually in good shape. There are plenty of others in the area so continue to ask around.

River Falls is a Gary Player signature course, but it's nowhere near Boiling Springs, it's in Duncan.

It is a good layout, and usually well maintained. It is located at 61 Villa Rd. near South Pleasantburg Drive and I-385.

Also if you want to take the wife as well, you can always go to Top Golf located at I-85 and Pelham Road. It's basically a nice driving range, but with a twist. You can eat and get drinks while you play driving range games inside out of the elements. Look it it up on the internet to find out more. It's always a bunch of fun for the entire family.

The Embassy on Verdae is certainly convenient but the rooms are small, dated, and in desperate need of a renovation.

The Preserve (Verdae) would be good ..... lots of hills, but none are going to be like the mountains unless you are in the mountains. Cherokee Valley would be the closest to a mountain course as it is at the foot of the mountains.
Also consider Carolina Springs or Furman. The old Cross Winds Par-3 would be fun especially if he is not a better than average player. Top Golf would be fun ..... but it ain't golf ......bowling with a golf club and ball basically.

Why not The Walker Course. That’s an hours drive.

It is a par 3 near Cedar Mountain (probably 45 minutes from Greenville), and you can arrange to have a llama as a caddy!

For convenience, I would recommend playing at Boscobel on US 76 at about 11:30 and having the wimmins meet you for supper across the highway at the Smokin Pig.
