Palmetto Series belt right off the bat. On the road. Crappy hot in Columbia tonight. Solid win.
Go Tigers!

Good win with a few Tiger fans in attendance ...

... But the stands were otherwise packed with Gamecock fans and they were behind the goal and on the opposing sideline as well.
Their fans were loud at times, but there were too many F-bombs for my liking, as they swore at our players. I don't think that belongs in college sports. I don't remember much of that when I played, but when you're on the field, you really don't hear much of the crowd anyway.
Clemson played good in spells, and will surely round into solid form for a solid 90 minutes as the season progresses. Overall, it was a decent performance against a good opponent and a good win.
The referee had a poor night, however, as he confirmed a South Carolina goal that didn't appear to have crossed the goal line at all - it will be interesting to see the replay- and was inconsistent in some calls. With 5 seconds left in the game, he stopped the clock to give a card to Coach Noonan, who correctly argued a free kick against the Tigers.
But, a win is a WIN, and even sweeter on the road against our arch-rival! A good start to the season.

I watched online which showed a couple replays - the goal definitely crossed the line. Didn't think so at first either.

I still haven't seen the replay, but with all the fans, there wasn't any sort of uproar before the goal was called like I've seen in other games. However, if the replays show the ball crossed the line completely, then good enough.
However, the referee's performance still was not consistent. As a player, that's what you want. Consistently good is what you want, but I'll also take consistently bad ... As long as the calls aren't lopsided ... Most players agree with that. ??
The best referee is one that is "invisible" and doesn't adversely impact the game and doesn't stand out. Stopping the clock with 5 seconds left just so he can give a yellow card to a coach certainly doesn't fit that bill.

Neither here nor there, but I had South Carolina friends sitting on the goal line that say it wasn't a goal...the replay angles were horrid but go Tigers! No Jordan Morris in our way this year! And I was extremely impressed by Ximo...young lad did a great job staying calm with all the cursing behind him, and a superb job controlling the box and his players

Good solid win for first game away

Watched the game on ESPN 3 and was impressed with the fans that showed up to watch these two nationally ranked teams. Clemson looked a little tentative at times but can be expected in the first game at Columbia with many new faces on the pitch. Midfield will get better at distributing the ball so our front line can use their skills to score. Freshman goal keeper had a good first game and will improve his communication with the defense. Go Tigers!
