Great coordinators don't necessarily make great HC's.

Muschamp, Malzahn, Scott (Brad) when he came to USuC are all good examples. I think Venables gets this. When you are gifted and great at something, keep working in your wheelhouse. Some guys recognize this and some don't. BV seems like on that does. A HC has to be an administrator, a PR guy, a mom, a dad, a social worker, and a politician. Coordinators can just coach. I hope I am reading Venables correctly. He can stay here and retire, be a millionaire and be revered by Clemson fans for as long as he likes. Plus, he and Dabo seem to work very well together. That is partly a testament to Dabo's leadership style. He gives credit where credit is due and allows his coaches their time in the spotlight.

I actually agree that BV is not HC material. He is an excellent DC and I hope he stays at Clemson until he hangs it up.

Mickey Andrews is to Bobbby Bowden as Brent Venables is to Dabo Swinney? That would be incredible.

I agree

You're allowed to foam at the mouth on the sideline as much as you want as a defensive coordinator.

As a head coach, you can't do it once.

BV is too high energy for head coach. Imagine a head coach with full time "get back" coach? I love that about BV, but can't see him giving up control to a DC. He would explode if we was that wired during offense as well.

All the more reason to pay him whatever it takes

to keep him at Clemson.
