and offer strategy look like against the Covid lapse with data? I’m not talking about tampering by other teams with in-home visits, but how we are so conservative with offers and just how damaging Covid was to Clemson as a result. Compound that with our not using the portal much and inexperienced coaches evaluating recruits from video can’t be nothing. It doesn’t change anything n terms of root cause, but I wondered if anyone had taken a look.

I think it’s a wildly underestimated part of what has happened but since it’s compllicated and affected by numerous variables it’s way too much for the average T-Natter to process.

Well thank God we have above-average TNetters that can't explain the numerous variables.....

Yea, but I bet we could dumb it down to look at specific things. They won't tell the whole story, but the slide timing is difficult to ignore. That and we seem to have been sliding in the same areas consistently...

The 2020 class was partly on campus when Covid hit. While evaluations wouldn’t have been affected, the transition to college and normal derecruiting was dramatically affected.
The 2021 class were hs seniors during Covid. While the should all have been thoroughly evaluated (junior year being peak) there would have been some lapses in late offerings. This class would come woefully underprepared compared to previous classes as they would have played considerably less football and spent less time training in the senior years than normal.
The 2022 class were juniors. Perhaps the most impacted by Covid. Their most important season for evaluation would be limited and viewed mostly remotely.
These classes, on paper, cumulatively account for the best overall team talent index in Clemson history per 247. This is obviously not playing out on the field. For one, while talented, we’re skewing younger than a lot of other teams. Yes, unwillingness to dive into the portal isn’t helping. I also think that Dabo thrives on finding diamonds in the rough. Our success enabled us to start grabbing higher and higher percentage of 4/5 star players when Dabo’s skill was finding 3 star players that would best compliment his needs. Of course this was out of necessity. It’s documentable that, on paper, our overall talent index surged. But Covid meant these players weren’t evaluated for their fit with program and work ethic that had gotten Clemson to the top. Even this is only part of big picture. And yet, if our veteran backs could stop fumbling and/or we had a decent kicker we’d still be on track for at least 10 wins. I have no reason to think he can’t pull us out of it.
