Specifically, the hymn is in reference to the sacrifice Jesus Christ paid on Calvary’s cross for the very sins like you describe. Whether what you described happened for you or did not happen for you is irrelevant. Either way, you are still a sinner and Jesus Christ has already paid the debt that you owe for committing such a sin. However, even if you’re just “joking,” your very thinking of such a thing is a sin and should bear witness to the fact that you are a sinner. If you have never asked Jesus to save you, He will if you mean business with Him and ask in a sincere and contrite spirit. That’s what He wants for you.

But, He won’t force Himself on you in this life. He’s the perfect gentleman. He just knocks on your heart’s door, but you have to be the one to invite Him in there. You may reject Him and be your own god if you like. You have ever right to do that. You can make fun of Him, belittle Him, and scoff at all this Christian “hooey.” In fact, have all the fun you can in this life and paint the town the brightest of red with the biggest paint brush you can find because eternity is long, long time. In fact, it is forever. Time has no meaning in eternity. It literally NEVER ends. When this life is over, you will be judged by Jesus Christ. That is a certain fact. God’s Word says that if you do choose to reject Jesus and be your own god, He will judge and condemn you to a horrible place called Hell for all eternity. He doesn’t do that because He has it in for you. He does it because He hates sin and His righteousness demands it be judged and removed from a place righteousness and holiness. Hell is certainly a place you never want to be, sir. Jesus said Hell is a place of outer darkness where there is weeping and wailing, and gnashing of teeth. It is a place devoid of God, and you’re trapped in agony. You are forever removed from God’s Holy Presence. There will never be a reprieve from your torment, and you will have nothing but forever to think about that reality.

But, the good news is that Jesus already suffered all that for you if you are willing to admit that He did and believe only He can make you fit for Heaven. You will most definitely see Him one day, but instead of that being the worst day of your existence, make it the best. He died for you because He loves you. He bore EVERYONE’s sins, including mine. Be ready to see Him when that day comes. That’s what He would like. That’s what I would like as well. Seek the Lord while He May be found.
