112 - Jordan Leggett Made 112 Receptions for Clemson

Clemson TE Jordan Leggett (2013-2016) wore a Livestrong bracelet during each game at Clemson. It often broke during the battles of a game, but Leggett’s heartfelt tribute to a fallen friend never did (see below).

While at Clemson:

According to selected excerpts from his bio on ClemsonTigers.com, Jordan Leggett accomplished the following at Clemson:

“One of the nation’s best tight ends, and the most decorated athlete to play the position at Clemson … two-time Mackey Award finalist … finished his career with 112 receptions for 1,598 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2,372 snaps over 51 games (38 starts) … Clemson’s career leader in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns by a tight end.

2016: Finalist for the John Mackey Award … second-team All-American by AFCA and CBS Sports … third-team All-American by Phil Steele … first-team All-ACC (media) … set Clemson single-season record for receiving yardage by a tight end in the ACC Championship Game

2015: One of three finalists for the John Mackey Award, presented annually to the nation’s top tight end … second-team All-American by the Walter Camp Foundation … honorable mention All-American according to Sports Illustrated … first-team All-ACC (coaches) … second-team All-ACC (media) … his eight touchdowns were most on the team

notched his eighth touchdown reception against Alabama in the National Championship Game to tie Dwayne Allen (2011) and Brandon Ford (2012) for the school single season record by a tight end

2014: ACC Academic Honor Roll member … had 14 receptions for 161 yards and one touchdown in 360 snaps over 11 games (seven starts)

2013: Had 12 receptions for 176 yards and two touchdowns in 166 snaps over 10 games (one start)”

As noted above, Leggett’s 8 touchdown receptions in 2015 tied him for the most touchdown receptions by a tight end in Clemson history. Leggett considered entering the NFL Draft after such a successful junior year. But he had some unfinished business that brought him back to Clemson for one more season. According to the State:

“The Florida native considered entering the NFL Draft after his junior season, but chose to return to Clemson with the goal of again reaching the title game and finishing the job this time. “I wouldn't have (returned) if I didn't think this team could do it,” he said. “I really have a lot of faith in this team.”

After Clemson:

The NY Jets selected Jordan Leggett with the 150th pick (5th Round) in the 2017 NFL Draft. According to Wikipedia, Jordan Leggett spent time in the NFL with the Jets, Buccaneers, and Broncos:

New York Jets

Leggett was slated to begin the season as the starting tight end with Seferian-Jenkins serving a two-game suspension for a DUI. After the second preseason game, Leggett suffered a knee injury, and was placed on injured reserve on October 31, 2017. On November 9, 2017, Leggett announced he successfully underwent knee surgery. In Week 4 of the 2018 season, Leggett recorded his first three career receptions, which went for 13 yards and one touchdown, in the loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

On May 20, 2019, the Jets waived Leggett.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

On May 21, 2019, Leggett was claimed off waivers by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. On August 31, 2019, Leggett was waived by the Buccaneers and re-signed to the practice squad. On October 30, 2019, Leggett was promoted to the active roster. He was waived on December 24, 2019, and re-signed to the practice squad. He signed a reserve/future contract with the Buccaneers on December 31, 2019. He was waived on July 30, 2020.

Leggett had a tryout with the Baltimore Ravens on August 22, 2020.

Denver Broncos

On November 16, 2020, Leggett was signed to the Denver Broncos practice squad.…On February 2, 2021, the Broncos waived Leggett.

When many fans think of Jordan Leggett’s time at Clemson, there are three plays that come to mind most often – all from the 2016-2017 season:

Play 1: Touchdown catch late in 4th Quarter vs Louisville (15 second mark in video)
Play 2: Touchdown catch at FSU (38 second mark in video)

Play 3: Amazing catch in the game winning drive to win the 2016 National Championship

As for the Livestrong bracelets mentioned above, Leggett wore them to honor his friend and former teammate, Ian Lockwood – and to push himself for Lockwood’s sake. In November 2016, ABC News wrote the following:

Six years after Lockwood died of brain cancer, Leggett's career at Clemson is coming to a close. He arrived overmatched, blissfully unaware of how hard his path to success would be. He is leaving as a two-time finalist for the Mackey Award -- given annually to college football's most outstanding tight end -- and as the school record holder for catches, yards and touchdowns for a tight end. Lockwood has been with him every step of the way.

"We both loved football," Leggett said, "and with it being taken away from him, I just try to keep his legacy on my shoulders."

a lot of emotion and effort as he grew. Great athlete and was a big dude who could catch the ball. Was a key player in the Watson and Co. 2016 National Championship.

Started with the Jets, played here and there, made a good bit of money, and ended up being a successful young man.

Jordan Leggett was one of the all time greats tight ends and will always be remembered at Clemson.

North Carolina Highway 112 is a 3.58 mile state highway in Buncombe County southwest of downtown Asheville that runs from the west end at US 19/US 23 in Enka to the east end at NC 191 in Venable. The Pisgah National Forest borders NC 112 on the south side.

The Bent Creek Experimental Forest, south of NC 112 and west of NC 191, is part of Pisgah National Forest. It was established in 1925 and is the oldest experimental forest east of the Mississippi River. The 6,000 acre forest was set up to promote sustainable forestry and provide science-based information for forest management practices. The Lake Powhatan Recreational Area and Campground and the North Carolina Arboretum border the boundaries of Bent Creek. The recreation area has the swimming lake with a beach and the French Broad River nearby. The North Carolina Arboretum is a 434 acre arboretum and botanical garden with mutiple gardens under continuous development.. The recreation area and the arboretum are about 12 miles south of Asheville and 18 miles northeast of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
