Virginia State Route 131 is a 1.65 mile state highway in Appomattox that starts on the south end at US 460 Bus/SR 631 and continues to the north end at US 460 and SR 24 that goes through the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park.

The aforementioned Appomattox Court House National Historical Park near Appomattox, Virginia is a 1775 acre park owned and operated by the National Park Service and is visited by about 100,000 annually. It contains the old Appomattox Court House with the village that surrounded it. It also has the McLean House where Confederate Gen Robert E. Lee surrendered to Union General Ulysses S. Grant on April 9, 1865 after the Battle of Appomattox, essentially ending the Civil War. The house was owned by Wilbur McLean and the surrender documents were signed in the parlor. This triggered surrenders around the south and ended the war in June. American history is interesting, even more so when you see where it happened. I would like to visit someday, especially since Virginia is a very scenic state.

I’ve actually been to Appomattox Courthouse Historic National Park. My Dad is from the Tidewater region of VA - the park is not far from his hometown.

VERY cool park. Tons of history.

Thanks for sharing!

131 - Andy Teasdall Punted 131 Times for Clemson

For all of his important punts, Clemson’s Andy Teasdall (2013-2016) is best known for two non-punts – both of which occurred in the 2015 post-season.

Before Clemson:

Growing up, Teasdall wanted to play lacrosse in college. God has a way of changing plans. ClemsonTigers.con describes how Andy Teasdall went from lacrosse to Clemson punter. In Teasdall’s own words:

“I was trying to play lacrosse. My dad played in college. I played football — receiver, safety and punter — but I was much better at lacrosse. I always wanted to go to an ACC school, but only four had lacrosse at the time. So I wasn’t recruited. I visited my brother, who was at Clemson when I was a freshman. I ended up trying out with the mentality that if it worked out, great. If not, I’d still love Clemson. I tried out for receiver and punter. But there were pretty good receivers here, so that didn’t work out. I made it for an extended tryout in the spring of 2013.”

While at Clemson:

For all of his strong punts at Clemson, Andy Teasdall will forever be remembered for two fake punts – one fake punt that failed miserably in the 2015 ACC Title game and a second fake punt in the CFP that redeemed Teasdall forever in Clemson Nation!

Fake Punt 1 (Doghouse or “Love Shack”): 2015 ACC Championship Game

#1 Clemson held a five point lead over #10 UNC in the 2nd Quarter of the 2015 ACC Title Game. On 4th and 15, Teasdall thought he saw an opening in the UNC defense. He took off – unplanned – thinking he would reach the First Down marker. He was quite mistaken. Dabo was demonstrably unhappy:

Fake Punt #2 (Redemption): 2015 CFP Orange Bowl

#1 Clemson was trailing #4 Oklahoma by four in the 2nd Quarter of the Orange Bowl in the 2015 CFP. Clemson was facing 4th and 4. This time Teasdall ran a called fake punt by hitting freshman DL Christian Wilkins down the left sideline. The play seemed to turn momentum as Clemson went on to win big (37-17) and advance to the National Championship game.

USA Today described it this way:

“Teasdall, who had received more than a punter’s share of attention after foolishly attempting a self-called fake punt in the Atlantic Coast Conference title game against North Carolina, made one of the most scintillating plays of the playoff semifinal.

He hit 315-pound defensive tackle Christian Wilkins with a perfect, 31-yard pass on a called fake punt, setting up the Tigers for their first touchdown and lead of the game early in the second quarter. The high-arcing toss was executed with guts and glory, wafting through the South Florida sky and into the waiting, beefy arms of Wilkins. Two plays later, quarterback Deshaun Watson scrambled for a 5-yard score to give Clemson a 10-7 lead.

Teasdall was off the hook … by any definition of the phrase.”

Sports Illustrated added the following:

“Clemson notes it was the first catch in school history ever made by a defensive lineman”

https://www.si.com/college/2015/12/31/clemson-tigers-oklahoma-orange-bowl-fake-punt-video

According to Sports-Reference.com, Teasdall achieved the following stats at Clemson:

Andy Teasdall (2013-2016):
- 31 Games
- 131 Punts for 5,097 Yards (38.9 Average)
- 1 Carry for 4 Yards (4.0 Average)

And … 2 for 2 in Pass Completions for 30 Yards
