Thoughts on Dabo...

As I've watched the last 2 games at some point I heard the announcers say that Dabo is about to surpass Frank Howard's record for wins at Clemson. I'm certain that Frank Howard does not want Dabo to "break" his record, touch his rock or really be associated together with the way Dabo is addressing the fans, media, team or anything. What head coach (or Clemson man) talks like that about your fans or puts out that kind of losing mentality??
After hearing the radio call, I'm even more convinced that until some real soul searching is done on Dabo's part, Frank Howard's spirit (not to mention others) will not allow that win.
My other point to this is how it seems that Dabo has forgotten where he cane from. I remember that it was 1 man (Terry Don) and the fans that allowed him to get and keep this job. 1 man and the fans that believed in him.
So here's a question.... How many of the people that are associated with Clemson University throughout history that came from Alabama had much success prior to arriving at Clemson?
"There's something in these hills!"
GO TIGERS!!!

LOL...you have no clue.
I would have "loved" to have seen someone talk to Frank Howard or Danny Ford the way Tyler spoke to Dabo. They would have most likely ended up missing.

that Dabo has, nor did they ever blame a single fan (much less 1.5%) of being responsible for a loss. So no “Tyler” call would have been necessary in the first place.

Don't believe Dabo blamed Tyler or any fan for the loss. He took full responsibility for the losses and the rough season we are having.

Responsibility, like when he threw his struggling qb under the bus. Whether cade made the decision or not the coach should have taken the heat.

I didn’t think Dabo served himself well by allowing some random fan to get so deep under his thin skin. It was a bad look.
Having said that, I’m sure Dabo is cowering at the prospect that he won’t catch Frank Howard’s record.
Frank Howard” the Legend”-only won 56% of his games at Clemson.
Frank Howard won his 165 games over 30 years. Dabo has done the same over 15 years.
There is no comparison.
Dabo is in a very high profile position, makes a ton of money and yes the expectations are very high, so he better be able to handle some criticism, but spare me the Frank Howard glory days.

I interacted on multiple occasions with Coach Howard. I liked the man. He was very funny and very smart. He was also incredibly crude at times and I watched Mrs Howard turn her head and look away when he became inappropriate.
He was from a different era and would not have survived the PC world we live in now.
I remember Coach Howard fondly like one might think back on a crusty uncle, but to say Frank Howard has done more for Clemson than Dabo is a bit much IMO.
Please elaborate on all the things Frank Howard made possible at Clemson vs Dabo.

Dabo made it very clear in his response last night that he has not forgotten where he came from or why he deserves to be where he is at this time in his career.
Also, you are either young and never had to deal with old school coaches or you hid from competition in the days when Howard and Ford were coaching.
Not just specifically Howard and Ford, but somebody would have had to physically pull just about any old school coach off of a fan that spoke to them in that way.

Dabo's salary didn't create the trait within him to defend himself.
I grew up around sports my entire life and was surrounded by quite a few of what most would categorize as old school coaches in the high school and college ranks.
I can assure you their salary has nothing to do with how those coaches interacted with anyone who questioned the way they ran their programs.

That statement means that you are certain that after 2 national championships, 12 consecutive 10+ win seasons, 8 ACC championships, numerous staff changes, landscape changes in the sport and hundreds of players coming through the program under his watch, that the increase in salary is what has changed Dabo from his early years at Clemson.
I'm pretty sure his take on this situation would be pretty similar if he were still making the money he made in 2009.
The difference is that he would be walking out the door in the face of this fan behavior if he were still making that much, because 2/3 of the country would pay Dabo big money to come turn around their football program.
You and everybody on Tyler's side about the salary better be happy that Dabo is making $11.5 million or he might say it wasn't worth it to stay with a spoiled fan base who is questioning his worth as a coach.

You haven't been around Clemson football very long if you think Frank Howard was humble. He was quick to lash out at his critics. You need to do a little research before making such foolish arguments. Why shouldn't coaches respond to critics? You think Dabo is somehow "indebted" to you and me? That's about as ridiculous as saying our Congressmen and Congresswomen work for us. No doubt we have the power of the ballot. But once in office its pretty obvious they don't pay any attention to their constituents. Dabo was hired to coach a football team and keep Clemson University out of trouble with the NCAA. He has no minimum required number of wins to remain in good standing. And he doesn't have to do it "the way we think he should." Those who think so have obviously never led a team or an organization. You hire a leader to lead; not follow the crowd. That's what Dabo is doing. And he will continue to do it his way. And when that is no longer allowed, he will no longer be associated with Clemson University. Go Tigers!

I can think of 1.5 million ($30,000 A DAY) reason that we pay Dabos obscene pay with that gives us every right to question bad decisions and Dabo didnt show much of the Cgrist like behavior he talks so much about turning the other cheek do we

I hired a guy who completed his masters at Clemson after Dabo's second year. He said the majority of students he knew referred to him as "Dumbo Swinney."
I agree, 1 man (the AD), believed in him. Not sure the fans did until after his 3rd or 4th year.

Apparently all of the Clemson fans must display Kim Jung Un level loyalty to Dabo After gaslighting us all last year (tell me again about all those great practices) any and all who dare question the dear leaders failings must be "coots" or should get off and "lighten up the load" Ill tell you what will lighten, IPTAY donations and tickets to what ever pathetic bowl we get to if we do Then lets see what the AD and board of trustees have to say when revenue tanks

I think you’re going to be unpleasantly surprised where the big money comes from and how it feels about Dabo. 2022 was, by a long shot, the biggest revenue year in program history. And that’s after 3 years of decline according to most of you bozos. I imagine there will be a contraction after that, but not to 2021 or earlier levels.

No one “believed” in Dabo. That’s more revisionist nonsense. He was supposed to ride out the season. No one thought he would finish with a winning record or make a bowl game. This board was on fire. Waited all that time to finally get rid of Bowden and we gave it to a position coach with zero experience. None of that would have mattered if any of the top candidates hadn’t shown little interest in the job. So the decision was made to keep him on a pittance of a salary - the lowest in the ACC. Lower than Brad Brownell’s first year salary would be. Clemson - the perennial football school would pay its head football coach less money than their second choice Horizon League coach just two seasons later. He wouldn’t have survived 2010 if he hadn’t made the ACC championship in 2009. But the rest is history. All the “TDP and Tommy Bowden knew the kid was a winner” was and has always been hogwash. He was meant to run the shop while TDP found his next man and everyone else worked on their resumes. He won the job everytime it has been in question for him - no one gave it to him.
