Thunder so curious if anyone has purchased one of these for their dogs that hate fireworks or thunder. I’m calling BS on it.

Don't waste your time or money.

Go to your vet and ask for drugs. Only thing that works.

Re: Dogchit. What’s name of pills?

Like Xanax?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes. There are some other variations, but Xanax

is pretty commonly prescribed. I had to replace a fence because my dog destroyed it trying to get away from the fireworks. He's a labradoodle and generally a good dog, but he is terrified of storms/fireworks. He will climb, eat, dig his way to wherever he thinks is safe and the house ain't it. It's weird...

I was at my wits end and took him to the vet. They prescribed an anti-anxiety/anti-depressant for every day and Xanax for the storms. If you catch it before it hits, you're way better off. Takes about 40 minutes to kick in.

Idk your situation, but it was me or him there for a minute. He stressed me out for about a month last year (July) to the point I couldn't deal anymore.

Hope you take this advice if yours is anything like mine.

And mine was just the opposite, h would chase after the thunder and lightning from one end of the yard to the other. I wouldn't let him outside if I heard the thunder or seen the lightning before it began, and was from window to window and raising H E L L to get out in the yard where he believed it was at. He didn't fear it, he hated it, and yes I would have to drug him to calm him down, but I feared he would run himself to death if I let him outside where he believed it was at, and he hated it, he didn't fear it....

Way better. Will have them stumbling into walls and careless to the fireworks or thunder going on!

One method of helping this is to make louds noises when you feed your dog. That is if they are super excited to eat as a lot of dogs are. Start by banging pots and pans while eating but not in their face and just act like its normal. Continue to make noises while feeding for several wks but change the noises. They tend to be fine because they see you just acting normal. Then start making noises outside while feeding, you can have someon tell them it's ok if they get skiddish. After a month or two of doing this they get accustomed to noises but don't cuddle them, just act like its normal. Then when it thunders or fireworks, you can give a little food or treat ls to get their brain triggered that there is nothing to fear.

This will work about 90% of the time if you diligently work it for 2-3mos. There will be 10% of dogs that just can't stand thunder or fireworks especially. Good luck.

Ok thank you so much. Appreciate you.***

Tried and doesn't work for mine.

2

Jun 27, 2023, 9:42 PM [ in reply to Re: I know Death Valley can bring the ]

The problem with that method is that the noise and vibration can't come close to real thunder. My dog will start to pace and shake 20 minutes before I see a cloud or hear a rumble. I know what the OP is talking about and it's not like training a dog around gun fire. Totally different.

my own thought is that the dogs and other animals can sense variations in barometric pressure well ahead of humans.was thinking about getting the blanket thing for our airedale, but now won't.

We have one for our dog and it works great. Comforts her during thunder, lightning, and fireworks.
