What I would like to see in Basketball Season

6

Nov 2, 2023, 10:10 AM

Judge Keller to be as engaged with the commentary on our basketball coaching staff when times get a bit rough. I am reading all of the passive aggressive comments posted towards Dabo, but he/she disappears for weeks at a time when we lose to far inferior opponents. Apparently we only lose because of a lack of funding; it is never because of coaching that resembles church league at times.
With that being said, I am looking forward to a great basketball season in spite of coaching!

In what way is brownell a bad coach? I would like to hear specifics from a genius such as yourself.

I’ll help. I’ve seen you repeat the lie that he is no more inconsistent than other coaches despite having seen this. So it’s not just lack of information at this point:

He has never had an improved winning percentage in consecutive seasons. Never.

Clemson under Brad

Average ACC Finish - 7th
Average RPI - 84
Average RPI rank - 10
Average Q3+4 Losses - 3.1
Average Q3+4 Losses Rank - 11

How this measures up against League:

Average RPI for teams finishing 7th - 61
Brownell % over RPI by league finish - 38%
Average Q3+4 Losses by League - 2.6
Brownell % over average Q3+4 losses - 19%
Avg Q3+Q4 by ACC avg Quad 2 teams - 2.3
Brownell % over Q3+4 losses by avg quad 2 teams - 35%
Place Deviation for Q3+4 losses versus ACC rank - -4 (worst in the league)
Place Deviation for RPI versus ACC rank- -3 (tied worst in league)
Average Q3+4 losses by ACC 7th place team (excluding Clemson) - 1
Brownell % over Q3+Q4 losses by ACC Rank - 210%

Wow this is ground breaking stuff. It's almost as if when we have bad teams we lose more to quad 3 and 4 teams than when we have good teams (with last year being an extreme outlier). You truly cracked the code!

Here is how many losses we have to teams w/ a "2 or lower" SRS from the sports reference website. You will notice that up until last year, we only lost to 11 of these teams in 4 out of 12 seasons. in these 4 seasons we had bad years. His 2nd and 3rd seasons were his least talented teams since he's been here due to what he was left by Purnell. In these 2 years we finished 7th out of 12 in the ACC and then 11th out of 12 Last year was an extreme outlier as I mentioned. In the previous 6 seasons we lost to 0 teams w/ a 2 or lower SRS. Last year we lost to 5. What a crazy and abnormal season last year was.

2010: 22-12 record - 0
2011: 16-15 record - 4
2012: 13-18 record - 2
2013: 23-13 record - 0
2014: 16-15 record - 3
2015: 17-14 record - 2
2016: 17-16 record - 0
2017: 25-10 record - 0
2018: 20-14 record - 0
2019: 16-15 record - 0
2020: 16-8 record - 0
2021: 17-16 record - 0
2022: 23-11 record - 5

That’s why I ran the numbers for the entire conference for every year of his tenure. You’re simply posting his numbers and insisting they’re quite normal when they absolutely aren’t. His RPI and Q3/Q4 losses relative to the place he finishes in the conference are dead last. The only schools that remotely compare on a total “bad” losses are the teams whose average place in the conference over his tenure has been the bottom third.

Who is a similar team to compare clemson to? VT? What's another one? GT? NC State?

Games lost to teams w/ 2 or under SRS:

Vt: 13 Clemson: 16 - we were even going into this year and we had 5 and VT had 2

Games won to teams w/ over 12 SRS:

VT: 48 Clemson: 50

Syracuse and Louisville have the closest average finish in ACC standings over Brownell’s tenure. 6.5 and 7.3 to Clemson’s 7.2. Yet over that same tenure Syracuse and Louisville average 60 and 69 in RPI. Clemson 84th. This is because he loses more bad games, which is why he doesn’t make the tourney even when he has a “good” season. It’s just reality. Which is why Syracuse has made the tourney 5/ 10 seasons in the ACC (50%) Louisville 4/9 (44%) and Clemson 3/13 (23%).

SoS! Our OOC schedule has been terrible overall not to mention losses to teams like Louisville last yr ranked 224. Just going off memory, I think our schedule was ranked below 130th.

While I hope we have a great year with Hall and the excitement for this team, I hope it doesn't immediately give CBB a contract extension. If CBB could backup another good season in '24-25, then I would be for an extension but I don't want one great player like Hall to extend a 14yr experiment that has been underwhelming overall. CBB is a great person, mentor and good face for Clemson but that isn't going to win games.

Its almost like 7th after expansion is much different than prior to expansion.....

Since louisville joined the ACC, they have 9 losses to teams with an SRS under 2. We have had 10. They have 45 wins against teams with over a 12 SRS and we have 43 seems pretty #### even to me!

Syracuse has only lost to 6 teams w/ under a 2 SRS, but only won 38 over teams with higher than 12 SRS. Also not too far off.

Also louisville has made the tournament more than clemson because they have been top 4 in the ACC in 4 out of 9 seasons. We have only been top 4 once.

Syracuse and louisville have each recruited much better than clemson, so they have had more talent on their team. According to 247, since 2014 syracuse has recruited 20 players that were 4* or better. Louisville has recruited 26 4* or better. We have recruited 6 4* and better. This makes it rhat much more impressive that brownell's numbers are so close to louisville and syracuse.

JK doesn't have to comment on basketball staff

Because the Lunatic Fringe does it for him. The Lunatic Fringe hates CBB. No matter what CBB does that is not going to change. The call for firing will begin with the first loss. News flash -- No college basketball team has done undefeated since 1976.

That’s an odd comment.

Pretty sure going undefeated is not even on anyone’s radar.

Funny....I seem to remember you disappearing for days last season after each loss.....Anyway, I have nothing against Brad. As a matter of fact, I really supported Brad for a long time and thought he may be the coach to get us to the next level. However, if any expectations are put on the program in a game or a season, he absolutely folds.
As far as specific examples of bad coaching, Brad struggles with coaching rebounding and knowing when to properly call timeouts.
Judge, I have been reading all of your posts on every feed involving Dabo. It is amazing how you chime in on each and every post. Fake Clemson people love the negativity you spew, but it is obvious to those of us that have been watching your posts for years that you support Brad, not Clemson.

If we weren't struggling. It would be whining on the other site about how much Clemson neglects basketball and Dabo get's everything he wants, ad nauseum...blah, blah, blah.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I dont understand Tiger hoops fans who cant pull for us to win.

Nov 2, 2023, 3:26 PM

I have been vocally in favor of Brad’s dismissal for years. In the off-season.
But once fall arrives, and all coaching decisions have been made, I am All-In for Tiger hoops. I hope to be proven wrong every winter. Last year’s team played well enough to dance for 3 outa 4 months. Here’s hoping this is the year that Brad proves himself and we become regular dancers again. If not, I will be shoulder to shoulder with the haters, again.
