Does the 57.9 percent acceptance rate for Clemson University include Bridge to Clemson acceptances?

I can't say for sure. However, the entire concept behind the bridge programs for schools is to accept kids into your school but not have to report them in your freshman statistics.
That way you appease them and get them as sophomores, but you get to boost your numbers for your us news rankings.

At the end of your BS - Clemson is and always has been - a much better school than SC. Get over that - French fry cook.

I'm a Clemson alum who believes the gamecock is correct. Clemson is a great school, but I am very disappointed in their obsession with US News rankings.
The school was founded on the idea of educating SC kids, but we've dropped that mantra so we can manipulate numbers to impress the nation. The irony is that most who care about the rankings know the politics behind achieving them.

It does nothing to improve the rankings that a rejection by itself would not do. They are raising the bar, for good or bad, but leaving the door open for those that are willing to put out the effort. I see it as a win/win, not some ploy to improve rankings.
I also think it helps to appease alumni. I have degrees from Chapel Hill and Clemson. My daughter, soph at Clemson now was, rejected by UNC. I know I would have felt better if she was wait listed or something, rather than just being rejected.
My son just got accepted to the Bridge program yesterday, and is not sure what he will do. He was accepted everywhere else so far and had on 1400 on his SAT M/V. It is just a lot tougher than it used to be, but I am glad there are options.

I see your point and agree that the bridge makes the best of the situation. However, I feel like SC kids could do the work and add value to the university, so they should be given a better opportunity to enter as freshman. I'm biased to SC kids and Clemson, so it's a tough issue for me.

If their children are denied admission.
My issue is I hate the thought of a kid missing out on one of the best years of his or her life for the sake of higher rankings.
I believe the kids are only equites to make a 2.5 or 3.0 at TCTC to automatically start as sophomores.
Clearly these kids could succeed at Clemson or other universities.
In my opinion a great university is one that improves students for the betterment of their communities. Assembling a group of high performing kids is great, but that group could succeed anywhere.

It's a shame.

stuff, have the honesty to say that.
I don't know this for a fact, but it appears to me that it is mostly borderline kids with ties to Clemson (legacy of some sort). It allows them a way in if they want it, without a flat out rejection. Clemson is getting ridiculously hard to get into.

hard to get in? The interesting thing is that less than 1 in 3 accepted chose to attend Clemson. Part of that may be how late our admissions folks wait to actually accept students relative to other universities. We are much later in that process than others.

my son. He has to wait until April to hear from Va Tech and their acceptance is 70%. His M/V on the SAT were over 1400 and he did not get in the main campus t Clemson, but did the Bridge. No way I would get in now.

What was his stated major on his application? If his class rank was decent and he made 1400 (CR/M only), he should've gotten in to Clemson unless he chose a major where there are limited slots. Clemson does admit to major.

I call bs on anyone that can't get accepted to Clemson with a 1400 on their SAT. I know they have restrictions on getting into the Honors College by class rank but even that has exceptions. I know plenty of kids that have been accepted into the Honors College with less than 1400.

Well, I'm not 12, as your post suggests that you are, but I am an alum. I have the ring and the memory of many months of paying back student loans to make me feel secure.
When you mature just a bit, you may realize that I'm critical of the leadership on this point because I love the school and want what's best for it. I'm proud that the school was founded in opposition to the path USC was taking to ignore many SC kids for a college education and provided one for them. I think we should keep SC students as a focus.
