Since 2011 he has been the glue for the offensive line. Couldn’t Dabo have convinced him to stay?

Let's say there are 120 D1 programs worth a hoot. Shouldn't we be able to cultivate/recruit under a O-line coach that has a top 15-20 unit year in, year out? When we were Natty Champs, did we even then have a #1-#10 O-Line? I could be wrong (kudos to anyone willing to look it up and prove me wrong) but I don't think Caldwell ever had us in that range, nor do I believe Austin has sniffed that.

Love coach Caldwell. But he is not the answer. This group needs a whole new OUTSIDE perspective IMHO.

Regardless of whether or not our OL talent has improved since T.Austin took over from R.Caldwell, our OL seems to have more trouble in knowing who to block and getting themselves in position to successfully execute the block now that T.Austin is our OL coach.

Many TNet posters had complained about R.Caldwell, calling his OL’s soft. I suspect that these critics didn’t like R.Caldwell because they perceived R.Caldwell as being a ‘soft’ coach because of his physique.

We have many TNet’ers who criticize W.Goodwin for the same reason.

Quite frankly, this group of TNet’ers are clueless. They seem to believe that guys with ‘tough’ personas such as Will Muschamp are the requirement to be a tough and effective coach.

Goodwin is a fine coach. We should be pleased to have him as our DC.

T.Austin? I don’t know. At least his outward appearance isn’t as ‘soft’ as R.Caldwell. Surely that means that T.Austin will end up as as being a superior OL coach.

Robbie Caldwell is still employed by Clemson Football.

Robbie Caldwell is in his second season in an off-field support role on Dabo Swinney's staff. At the time of his transition from on-field coaching to administration after the 2021 season, Caldwell had coached 532 career college games.

He had spent 43 years as a college assistant coach; he wanted a break

Position coaches have to recruit and travel to see prospects; I’m betting if all the position required was on field coaching he’s still be doing it. They only get to spend a fraction of their time actually coaching ball that has to get old.

We need to find a way for R.Caldwell to ‘observe’ OL practices in an up front and personal way.

lot on TNet complaining that Caldwell needed to be fired. For some, they couldn’t get him out the door quick enough.

It’s amazing that when the TNet experts get what they want, they still aren’t happy.
