I’d vote yes to expansion if in return they allow us to leave the conference

Seems like a win for everyone. We get out and are able to join the SEC or the BIG. The ACC can continue patching together semi invested programs and maintain their status as the 3rd/4th best conference.
Thoughts?

Other ACC teams aren't going to agree to swap Clemson, FSU, UNC, or NC State for Stanford, Cal, or any other team on the west coast.

Yeah no obviously we’re more valuable brands than Cal and Stanford. But what if the ACC fails to act now and loses us at random and inconvenient time in the future. Wouldn’t there be some logic in planning for our (and FSU’s) eventual departure with the best available backups. Heck, if they do it right they can probably strike a partnership with the Big 12 to play some home and homes and stay nationally relevant to some degree.
Just a theory and doubt it will happen, but it’s still fun to think and

I had the same thought ClemsonGrad2011 That would basically have to open the door for renegotiating, "right"?
If that is not the case and it would create a legal loophole to potentially get out - then "NO" is the way to go.
Once the current contract is modified the way I understand it; there is "cause" to change some particulars.
Could be some type of counter that closes that loophole though.
You wonder if anyone at the ACC front office "gets it" by now? Basketball pays for itself and unlike many other sports is actually profitable. However, "football drives the Athletic department bus" not basketball. Basketball is in it's own "Sedan" capable of carrying a max of 5 people. Football pays for all the non-revenue sports though and needs a bus! The bus is how you stay relevant...

Blocking expansion is one way for the schools wanting to leave the ACC to exercise leverage. The conference now knows they will oppose any and everything until they are allowed to leave.
As the saying goes: "You don't get what you deserve, you get what you negotiate"

additions to our conference until they allowed us to leave. It might destroy the conference if we don't add some teams but ESPiN is strapped and isn't going to increase our contract for less than a stellar program like Bama or UGA and that, my friends, ain't gonna happen.
Clemson is on top we should stay on top and ride this wave to shore. I don't care what happens to any other ACC teams.

I hear what you’re saying but kinda disagree and do care about other teams. There’s something special about the realness of college football (compared to the NFL) and it’s sad to think we’re losing that. Really I wish there was a way for us to win (i.e., leave the ACC and/or remain on par from a revenue standpoint) but still have the Wakes of the world survive.
That said, I know that’s not realistic and I get it… there’s too much at stake to just go down with the sinking ship so we do need to fight our way out.
