If you listen to what Kyle Richardson said today

Nov 7, 2022, 10:07 PM

you’ll hear part of the problem. He said DJ was a perfectionist and a people pleaser. He never wants to disappoint anyone. Given that, he tends to hold on to the ball longer than he should looking for the perfect read. I feel our offense may be too complicated for his personality type. He is certainly more of a pro style guy. The zone read has too many options. They need to simplify things in my opinion.

This goes back to what others have said. And Kyle has just confirmed. Play fast, two minute drill all the time thus reducing the options for DJ. He will then just play football. Thank you Kyle.

I agree. Don't know why we abandoned the up tempo offense

Holds the ball looking for the perfect read? Then why does he repeatedly lock in on 80 or 10 and miss 84 wide open down the middle?

Throw is to 80 or 10. Square peg, round hole.

The perfect time is about two seconds before the sack.***

Mainly 80 if he is in the game... He seems to be blind to anything else when he is in the game.

DJ makes no decisions after the snap.

Nov 8, 2022, 7:01 AM

He had a couple games where the coaches turn him loose a bit to read a DE and he was 50/50 on making the correct call. They took that from him. He still can't hit a target moving laterally, across the field so any pass called to the middle is to a stationary target.

DJ has returned to early season form and stares his primary receiver down after the ball is snapped. Everyone in the nation sees this including the coaches and players we see each weekend. Every DE or safety in the nation knows they can determine where a pass is going as soon as the ball is snapped. That makes it near impossible for our receivers to 'get loose.' Note the many times DJ has thrown into coverage, that's telling because he doesn't choose to throw into coverage, it's just what the play calls for.

He is not going to improve, this is the latter part of his second season as the starter and nothing has changed from the beginning of his first season other than him being a tiny bit faster. His feel are still boat anchors and his first step is like mine. The difference is that I'm 70 years old and overweight. Another difference is that if I lost 35 lbs my first step would be quicker than it is now.

The perfect read is when a QB knows where all his receiver are suppose to be and actually looks at other than his primary to find a was to complete a pass.

Dabo said 'He's waiting for his receiver to get open...' You can't wait six seconds on one of four receivers. If the guy is covered you check the practiced location of others to make the play count. Dabo, by his own words, told us plainly what DJ's problem is.

I'm sorry for being so harsh.

Simplify? We only run like 7 different plays on offense. We can literally guess what they are about to do from our couch lol

Do you think? The offense was dumbed down about as much as it could be the last 6 games last year (all wins BTW) and hasn't really been opened up this year. Go back to the "offense for beginners" again and win out.

Thanks Coach but I don’t think it can be simplified any more than it is.

On hear, the bananamous opinion is that DJ doesn't MAKE

Nov 8, 2022, 10:00 AM

any post snap reads. All I can say is that we VERY seldom come up with a play saving ad-lib if our initial primary receiver is not open. And, in recent times, our initial primary receiver is VERY seldom open, if at all. Reasons for that are up to the coaches to evaluate and fix. It has not been fixated as of yet.

:(

DJ is NOT more of a pro style guy.

Nov 8, 2022, 10:28 AM

It doesn't matter what system you run if you can't make good pre and post snap decisions and deliver the ball accurately and on time, which a pro style QB has to do better than an RPO QB. When you can't do those things, you need to contribute in the running game or you bring nothing to the table.

There is no panacea for DJ once his confidence is shot. He's been slowly losing confidence since the the Wake Forest game.

Uh...we run an exceedingly simple offense. We run half field reads and key off of like two players. You can't make an offense much simpler than ours.
