things of that nature or completely ignore them when presented with adequate incentive.
That approach has proven to be very lucrative for the like of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

That's it! He's a coot! Even though he cited a relevant, accurate source on the matter at hand.
To be a "student,' it doesn't seem like you put a whole lot of critical thinking into things.

Benjamin Ryan Tillman, Jr., known as Pitchfork Ben Tillman (August 11, 1847 – July 3, 1918), was an American politician who served as the 84th Governor of South Carolina, from 1890 to 1894, and as a United States Senator, from 1895 until his death in office. Tillman's outspoken white supremacy and support for lynch law provoked national controversy.
Tillman was a member of the Democratic Party. Tillman also served on the first Board of Trustees at Clemson University after assisting with its founding.[1]

Congratulations for bringing in something absolutely irrelevant.
I suppose you're used to contributing little to nothing in conversations. You get a pass.
In the future, please don't be a moron.

If you think U of SC was free of racial problems-think again

And read "A History of the University of South Carolina, 1940-2000," the Chapter "1960-1969." Begin reading at the bottom of page 204. You can Google it or find it on Amazon, if you don't have the book.
So, quit throwing things in our faces that were from the 1800's as if SC was always above it all.

That Clemson isn't really in much of a position to point out another school's racially discriminatory past as a reason to not attend that school.

The point of the OP was to say, "Hey, recruits who are thinking about attending Ole Miss, Clemson warmly welcomed recently integrated students 50 years ago! Come be a Son of Clemson because we are 100% not racist unlike Ole Miss." I suggested that Clemson has racist skeletons in their closet just like Ole Miss so the argument isn't very convincing.
How did I miss the point? I assume because I forgot to mention that most of the Clemson student body was on the mall celebrating O'Bama's reelection while Ole Miss students were sharpening pitchforks and burning crosses on the 50 yard line.

Wasn't making the claim that there has never been a racism issue at USC. Wasn't claiming that there aren't any today either. Unfortunately, Clemson isn't the only school in the south where students have certain themed parties on MLK Day. It's sad but that's the world we live in.
As in real life, race should never be used for leverage in recruiting, especially not by fans.

Racism is not a tool to be used in any way. Most schools have moved on in a positive manner to change past beliefs and perceptions. As a former student and employee at Clemson, I know that they work hard to promote diversity. That is why it is an affront to me and many others when you bring up very distant history (1800's) to compare with recent events at other schools.
It gets very tiresome reading posts by Gamecock fans who, for some reason, are always on Tigernet. (This is especially true regarding negative comments of this particular nature.) The content and tone of the majority of these posts would lead the reader to believe that the U of SC set the standard for moral and ethical behavior...until one examines history.
I would have had no reply had you simply stated that, in your opinion, this was not something that should be used in recruiting. But, you could not leave it at that.

That particular guy likes to post the Tillman stuff. I believe he has a very, very limited and selective understanding of history and the world in general.
It might be too late to teach him any better. I don't think he's capable of understanding.
