How many remember what I (64 Grad) think were the two toughest losses we had. What were these two games famous for? No googling.
1977 ND 1988 FSU
Young bucks will have to look up. I was there in Death Valley for both of them.

I was at both. Both heartbreaking losses. I was 13 at the 1st one and 24 at the FSU game in 1988

Dan Devine shooting the double birds on the way off the field and the puntrooskie. I was there for both.

Clock reads 0:0 and ball is still in his hand. On the other hand replay has taken out a lot of spontaneous celebrations because you have to wait for a review.

Why in the hayull do you guard the inbounder on the baseline with 1 second left? It was going to be a hail mary pass no matter what. Put that guy (Tyson??) in the forecourt!!! Another man there to block the ball that just went right over his head.

Given the length of the pass someone should've been able to jump in front of George like a defensive back.

puntrooskie game.
Was there in the lower South Stands with friends, when Bowden pulled that trick and was literally stunned, as were most...and mad to no end, swearing worse than a sailor. That frigging game had me twisted in knots all the way back to Columbia, but that was back in the days when I let those kinds of things rage on. Now, I get mad, swear, have a strong drink, then throw my hands in the air. lol

It was the Granddaddy of all trick plays. And, you will notice I said TRICK PLAYS, not that made up non-word "trickeration".

Thankfully, it's now a banned trick play.

I was at both too. ‘77 was my Junior year. That was probably my toughest loss to see in person. I saw the 45-40 loss to Alabama in 2016 which was painful too.

Listened to the ND game on the radio at the Rec Center while playing basketball. I held a parabolic mic on the FSU sideline for CBS so I had a closeup view of Bowden immediately after. The rain that fell that day was copious - very miserable.

I guess it's time to admit im an old timer... i just threw up in my mouth a little remembering both games. Then we had to suffer through all those years of mediocre football .

Most heartbreaking away lose I was at 1984 at UGA. Fr at Clemson Kevin Butler’s 60 yd FG with 11 sec that would of been good from 70 yds

Was there for the ND game. The two fumbles when we were moving the ball well were killers. Also the '79 Usuc game on the last play inside the five when everybody including Queen Elizabeth knew it would be a pass to Tuttle who was covered like a blanket. Lost 13 to 9.

I was at the 1977 ND game. Thought it was stolen from us when Fuller pitched the ball forward and the tailback (Ratchford maybe?) ran the ball from about the 13 to inches from the goal line. Should have been first and goal from there. But no! Illegal forward pass- but Fuller was behind the line of scrimmage. Clemson had to settle for a field goal and ended up losing to the Irish 21-17.
Had to watch that jacka$$ Joe Montana walk off the field holding up a finger as #1. Clemson outplayed ND that day and the Irish definitely weren’t #1 in the minds of the fans. To make it worse, they went on to win the national championship.
