In case there was any doubt who the 1983 ACC Champions were

In light of the Reggie Bush news…
I don’t get how we lost out on the ACC championship both ways between the 2009 ACC Championship that Georgia Tech won on the field but had to vacate but we don’t get it? And 1983 that we won on the field, didn’t have to vacate but Maryland, who we absolutely demolished get to say they were Champions.

Plus we set a Guiness World Record for killing the most sea turtles with orange balloons.

I am proud to say I helped in that effort personally.

I was in the upper deck, and almost swallowed a balloon.

Clemson was ruled ineligible for the title prior to the 1983 season. Georgia Tech was found have committed violations after the fact, and was simply stripped of the title.

I still have a section of our goalpost that went down right after Maryland went down.

I remember parts of the goal post being paraded through Johnstone.

Wonder what bowls we would've gone to in 1982 and 1983 if we weren't on probation. I think 1982 would've been Orange again vs Nebraska (13th ranked LSU at 8-2-1 was the opponent while we were sitting at #7 with a 9-1-1 record).

1983 is tricky to figure out. We were #12 again at 9-1-1. Georgia with same record went to Cotton (who we tied). Florida at #11 8-2-1 went to Gator against Iowa... I think we would've taken Florida's slot here. Slight chance of Citrus Bowl who took Maryland against Tennessee. Definitely would not have taken Miami's spot against Nebraska in the Orange.

I don’t remember if they awarded them the trophy onfield after that game, but I can only imagine the crowd if they did.

I was there and it was the loudest game I have ever attended at Death Valley ....... the entire game was deafening. Boomer Esiason was the Maryland QB and was interviewed after the game where he said something to the effect "yeah, we really feel like ACC champions".
