This is true, but they didn't exploit the portal, nor did they offer over the top NIL agreements. They've developed their players from high school and continue to build on success. Texas was a nobody team until last year, most of their starters who are seeing the majority of game time are seniors now. It took time to develop them. OSU always has a strong recruiting presence nationwide as does UGA. Kirby Smart is a recruiting machine and as much as I don't care for him, he has the formula down pat. He also has experienced coaches around him on his staff. They will all soon leave for greener pastures and that will mark the true measure of his abilities.
If I am being honest, I hurt for Clemson right now because they remind me of the 2011, 2012, 2013 teams that were on the bubble of breaking loose and crushing everyone in their way, but self-inflicted mistakes continued to haunt them. You'd have to be blind if you don't see the top quality of the offensive play and play calling. We also have to take notice that our running game has improved vastly which will open up down field passes as defenses will have to load the box to stop our ground attack.
Someone has to be an idiot to believe that our defense isn't one of the strongest in the land whenever you're able to keep a team like Florida State to a measly 22 yards on the ground all game long. Clemson's best years have come whenever we can stack 4 in the box and cover with 7. It forces the opponent to become a one-dimensional team. Then it forces the QB to throw into coverage or throw the ball away. If that sort of pressure continues, it forces bad throws and costly mistakes.
Is Clemson a Championship caliber team this season? Absolutely not... However, during the games against Charleston Southern and Florida Atlantic Dabo emptied the benches and played more than 117 players. We caught a glimpse of the future, and the future looks #### good in my opinion. Supplement that with the talent that is seeing back-up time on a regular basis; coupled by the fact that we have monster talent that is probably going to be on campus in January, and that will lead to championship teams. Dabo is not as near sighted as the fan base and media are. I'll take 3-4 rebuild seasons to have another 6-year run in the playoff. Not to mention the fact that the playoff brackets are expected to expand, and should that happen, Clemson will be in the National Championship discussion for years to come.
So, I believe Dabo whenever he said, We have another Championship or two coming up real soon.
