sensible posters on TNet. Kind of confused how you get posting a link to facts as biching and moaning.
But hey, to each their own.
And do me a favor, as far as abortion, don't bring such sh!t to me on this board. You want to talk about it. Ok, how about my wife's grandmother tried her best to get her mother to have her aborted. Even going so far as to drive her to the clinic. If that would have happened, I wouldn't be married and I wouldn't have my beautiful 5 and 3 year old son. So yes, abortion is wrong, 100%, if you really want to know my opinion and aren't just trying to be an azzhole which very much seems to be the case.

Have you ever owned a Pitt? It really gives one hand on experience with the nature of that breed of dog.
The pie chart doesn't address pitts as pets vs pitts trained to fight. I believe this is worth consideration and came back down to earth on the subject because you seemed to begin to merit consideration.

My pitt bull would lay down his life to protect your children, you ignorant putz.
You start a thread by saying that anyone who disagrees with you has their head up their ###. Repeatedly you've been directed by posters on this thread to educate you about Pitts but you refuse to examine the evidence.

The situation is unfortunate. Pitbulls are some of the most lovable dogs I have ever been around. The fact that they can absolutely destroy things because of their physical makeup makes them a real hazard though.

Better?
Take me serious or not, but when my best friend of 20 years had his pit for 8. Treated and coddled that thing like a child, even after his children came along. The children loved the dog and the dog loved the children. That is until they were in the back yard one day just playing, and the dog decided to take half of the 4 year old boys face off. 6 Plastic surgeries later all should still be good right?

For every story like that you have there are thousands just the opposite. You want facts? There are millions of pit bull and pit bull mixes in the US, yet less than one percent of them will ever harm anyone.

A wise person can still have a sympathetic heart but having a sympathetic heart doesn't necessarily mak one wise... To me it's as simple as this... - If you wanted a puppy to turn into a duck dog would you choose an Australian shepherd or a lab? - If you wanted a dog to catch a frisbee would you pick a border collie or a dachshund? - If you wanted a pup to turn into a military or police dog would you choose a blue tick over a German Shepard? - if you wanted a rabbit dog would you buy a pointer or a beagle pup?
If you wanted a dog that would be capable and willing to grab something the size of a small child or larger by the throat and hold on until it dies then what's the best choice?
To me this has never been a matter of how individual dogs or treated or whether that dog is going to hurt someone, it's simply a matter of when is a pit bull the best choice for the purpose and given circumstances and how can you truly take responsibility if you choose to put one in any situation and turn out to be wrong?

Have you ever seen a dog grab and hold a wild hog or seen one dog tear another dogs throat out?.. I didn't enjoy the idea that it could have been me. My neighbor had a pit bull when I was young that I thought was awesome... She was playful and energetic and you could roll around and tussle with her and have a blast... The thing is when she got excited all you could do was ball up and cover your face because there was no getting away from her. I loved it and really as a small boy it didn't scare me in the least. They got rid of her because she would knock down my baby sister and not get off of her. No great big horror story. Now I personally have had a couple of pit bulls as well as numerous hounds, bird dogs, shepherds, retrievers, and other terriers including a jagdterrier (which was the hardest dog I've ever owned). In my experience the only dogs that exhibited the kind of physically aggressive excitement of a pit bull were the other terriers. The main difference being the physical size and strength of the bull terrier makes them much harder to handle... Admittedly I believe I could avoid issues with the pit by treating it differently but why would anyone want a dog that has the propensity to be a threat if not handled cautiously when there are so many out there that don't require that kind of care... I watched a lady a TV court show one day trying to defend herself from having to pay for a neighbors pigs which had been mauled by her pit bull when she let it out... All I could think was how could she not foresee that coming when everyone else could.

baiting in medieval/Elizabethan times. The problem isn't that pitbulls bite. The irish terrier next door bites. The problem is that once they get hold of something, like a stick or a child's face, you'll need the jaws of life to get them unpried.

Yep. I never understand folks who discredit the idea that gameness is bred first and then controlled... Never removed. People have been utilizing this since the first dog was domesticated yet there are still those who can't understand the ramifications.

Bulldogs and terriers (likely fox terriers)weren't mixed for sport purposes until the mid 19th century.
They were also widely used as pets/companions during the same period, and much moreso in the first half of the 20th century, especially in the US.
If you would surmise that such a recent origin of a breed results in some kind of evolutionary genetic imprint, then you're "barking" up the wrong tree. Take heart, though! There are classes you can take at a fine university called Clemson to help you with your misunderstanding of genetics
Seriously though- I'm not trying to get you to buy a pitbull, or even like a pitbull. Heck, I'm not even trying to pick an argument. Just trying to clarify, as the "facts" slung around on this thread are erroneous, and this sort of misinfo results in breed-specific legislation. Historically, locations where such legislation is applied results in MORE bites than less. Why? It doesn't focus on people who are irresponsible with their pets, which, like with kids, results in problems.

Admittedly I am not old enough to attest personally to he purpose or origin of the pitbull breed so I have to base my position on the testimony and information I glean from other sources... If all the literature and references attributing there genetics to a desire for a game fighter or false I'd like to be pointed in the direction of a more reliable source and some explanation of the validity and credentials.

Pit bulls were created by breeding bulldogs and terriers together to produce a dog that combined the gameness and agility of the terrier with the strength of the bulldog.[1] In the United Kingdom, these dogs were used in blood sports such as bull-baiting, bear-baiting and #### fighting. These blood sports were officially eliminated in 1835 as Britain began to introduce animal welfare laws. --Wikipedia
