Job hunting. Let me know if I'm crazy

Had 3 interviews with a company. Hadn't heard from them in 2.5 weeks so figured they moved on. Got an email today saying they wanted days I could schedule a 4 HOUR INTERVIEW.
after 3 interviews prior I ain't in the mood for the #### so I sent back asking for more details on this 4 hour interview since it's a huge time commitment for someone with, you know, a job. And also interviewing with non crazy companies.
I doubt I even schedule this
Or is this normal now? 7 hrs of interviews?

Because if the poor skills level among many potential younger job candidates, many companies include an aptitude test (which of course must be passed according to the employer’s criteria) before making a job offer.
This is not meant to insult any job candidate. Sadly, this is a reflection about the declining quality of this country’s educational system (due to ‘social promotions’ of ‘graduates’ that didn’t learn the three R’s).
Consider whether or not you want to inquire if an aptitude test (or something along these lines) is part of the interview process.

Three rounds of interviews doesn't seem unreasonable.
Four hours for the last one seems over the top, to me.
I completely appreciate your take - I'd say it depends on how interested you are in the job, as to whether you commit any more time to their process.

hired. She worked for us for almost a year, and then was let go in a RIF.
She was a great boss, and nice person, too.
I would have never gone through 10 interviews though.

25 years. Companies that do that either have a wealth of candidates or dum bass for a HR VP. If the job at all interesting to you, tell them you are serious about your candidacy, but their hiring process is cumbersome compared to industry standards, that you would welcome the opportunity to talk about an offer. Leave it at that. If they want you, they’ll come after you. If you’re just one of many, they’ll tell you to go fly a kite…you don’t want to work for a company like that anyway. This communication needs to be with the hiring manager btw.
Good companies have no problem pulling the trigger to get good people. Shitay companies hem and haw. Universal truth.
Good luck.

Another reality about this company is you can expect they are inundated with bureaucracy and red-tape. Depending on your roll, this may or may not matter to you specifically. But know now that the company is run like this.

if you have 7 hours to vet candidates for a job opening, how badly do you actually need the job filled? Also, 7 hours of someone else's time who already works and HAS a job, is a lot to ask them to take off as well. If you're desperate, and busy and need the job filled, you figure out a way to streamline this process more. And if the job is so essential to require that time commitment, it's probably a job formerly done by two or three people they're trying to find some single person to fill.

I’ve had full day interviews. Had to give technical presentations for two of the jobs I’ve had. The first I did my thesis defense; the second I covered some of my career’s major projects. Those both went all day. I’ll agree with you that the interview is a bit much after 3 already. What was the point of the first three?
Best of luck. Or tell them to F off. Either way.

The amount of hassle should be commensurate with how much better this gig will be than current status.

Maybe that last 4-hour interview is going to be more like job shadowing for 4 hours? Idk.

That's the only company I had to do #### like that for.
And by the end of it I figured out they couldn't pay me enough to work there, and I told the hiring manager such haha
I had another interview with a competitor that was an all day deal. But it was very engineering focused so I had to do some work throughout the day with their team. It was actually a cool concept, and I'd like to implement a similar approach if put in a position to hire engineers

We can usually tell in the first 15 minutes if we’re going to offer.
Tell them no. If they want you they’ll offer.

Queen had interviews that lasted two days for a position, once. She had to interview for an hour with the company psychologist. She got the job, but ultimately it turned out to be a nightmare of a place to work.
